Hi all.

Recently began using custom firmware after many months using 1.5 with DevHook.
Upon installation I moved a couple of ISO and CSO files to the ISO folder on the memory stick (GTA Vice City Stories and Lumines II).

Lumines runs fine but GTA VCS crashes when loading. They both worked fine when using DevHook and I can't understand what is wrong.

I am now using 3.40 oe-a firmware and have also tried it on 3.03 oe-c.

Any advice/help appreciated.

.....sorry meant to add that I have tried every configuration of enabling and disabling NO-UMD in addition to inserting and removing a proper game (Wipeout).

its probably just the ISO file itself, try downloading from a different source, i also would have stayed at 3.03 oe-c because there is more to do with it

-PSP> 2.71 TA-082> 1.5> 2.71 Hend & DevHook>1.5 >3.03 oe-b> 3.03 oe-c> 3.40 oe-a (dislike)> 1.5> 3.03 oe-c> 3.40 oe-a > 3.90 m33 >3.90 m33-3

Thanks for your reply.

It can't be the ISO, it works perfectly well when I use DevHook

I too, am experiencing a problem loading .iso files on my newly backdated(1.5)-->updated (3.40OE-A) PSP. Some .iso files work fine, some don't work at all (preview looks fine, but a black screen is all that happens when I try to start the game). About 45% of the .iso files I've tried work, 45% black screen and another 10% have significant problems - 10% corrupt?(ie, load into the game, then lock up, or load without sound, etc).

Some of the .iso files that hadn't worked started working when I toggled the "No-UMD" option.
I know that a UMD must/should be in the PSP for .iso files to run, and have tried three different ones.

Long explanation short: Does the UMD that "opens the door" have to be of a certain FW build? ie, FW 1.50, or a FW that is greater than or equal to the (.iso) game I'm trying to run? Sorry if this is a repeat question, I didn't find it in the forum archives.

I have tried multiple different .iso files of the same game, so I do not believe that it is a corrupt file problem (At least for the total black screen ones). Please help.

it doesn't matter what umd disk you put in, as long as it's a game.

make sure all of your plugin's are also disabled. try switch between cso and iso.

#1: 2.81 -> 3.03 -> 3.11 DoH (no more :D)
#2: 1.00 -> 1.5 -> 3.03oe-c
#3: Ceramic white 1.5 -> 3.03oe-c -> 3.40oe
Whatever happens, happens...

Last night I converted my GTA VCS to a CSO from ISO and it worked. Not sure if the problem is related to file size or something. Also, I used Wipeout umd which is pretty old so looks like any umd will work.

cso is compressed, so something might get hung up doing the decompression.

#1: 2.81 -> 3.03 -> 3.11 DoH (no more :D)
#2: 1.00 -> 1.5 -> 3.03oe-c

O! That is wierd. I know another game that does this. DJMax portable 2. And that game only works with NO-UMD ENABLED....

I found out my problem.
In the advanced-->advanced configuration menu, I had all three options enabled (must have been by default...??? whatever)
ie:
Plain modules in UMD/ISO (enabled)
Execute BOOT.BIN in UMD/ISO (enabled)
Use isofs driver also in UMD-inserted mode (enabled)

By disabling the three (especially the last one) I went from 45% compatibility up to, so far, 100%.

Seems obvious in retrospect, but damned if it didn't take me forever to find out that those three need to be enabled. Must not be a common problem (But then why was it enabled for me? wth?)

Great forum, thanks for all the help!

they should be disabled by default. but if you enabled them in a previous oe firmware, they will still be enabled after you reflash to a newer oe

Assuming you're already running a 3.xx OE firmware, the configuration menu can be reached by holding down the right trigger button (R) while the PSP is turning on. Note when I say "turning on" I mean turning on from off, not coming back from standby. As far as I know to turn the PSP off you have to remove the battery.

No, you don't have to remove the battery you just have to hold the power button up for 10 secs or so.

Hi Silent key, i did what you did, disabling the 3 options but still cannot run MGS PO. No problem for other games. The same MGS's CSO can run on one of the my regular game shop's PSP (3.40OE-A), they said it could be the FW problem (they can help to fix also but charge like a boom), but when I told them I can run other games with no problem they just give no answer. So anyone ever encounter this before? I really like this game, so your help is truly grateful. Thanks!

I also had problems playing Tekken Dark Resurrection after I upgraded to 3.40 oe. But I disabled the 3 options in the advanced menu and it's working now. I wonder why those are enabled by default if games will not work properly with it? Thanks anyway.
