I just installed my wiid and I have 2 questions.
1. Do I really need to solder the opitional Wire D
2. The firmware update said to burn with Nero on a dvd disc but Nero wants a cd disc. So I burned with imgburn instead how will I know if the upgrade work.

The documentation says you need to use Nero to do the update. ImgBurn will not burn the update correctly. Just make sure you have DVD selected in Nero when burning the update to DVD. If it gives you the CD warning ignore it and burn it anyway.

There is no real way to know if the update has been updated. When doing the update it will give you the (Unable to read disc) error after you do the update which is normal. The lack of a GUI for the update is the only downside that I have found with the WiiD. Hopefully they will address this issue with the next update that comes out.

The update was put out due to some issue with PAL games. So if you have a PAL game and it boots then the update has been made.

The only reason you would need the D wire soldered is if you need to recover your modchip from a bad flash or if you wanted to disable the Modchip manually.

As of yet there is no reason to disable the chip but its a nice feature to have in case in the future you will need to.

Before I remade the disc I tried one of my PAL games lego star wars 2
and it booted up perfectly but just to be on the safe side I will remake the update disc and run it. And it works cooool all thats left is the D solder I'll wait til I really need it. Thanks

You can use ImgBurn or Nero for the Wii game backups.

Hi larrylje, did you actually solder wire D on switch 2? I was going to do that but you risk of burning the plastic around it if you don't remove the switch out of the way. And after removing the 3 screws, I wasn't able to pull the "L" shape plastic out. It seems like it's hooking onto something. So I left the option wire D not solder.

Nope I haven't soldered wire D in yet.

I probably won't until I need to either reset the chip firmware to default or need to disable the Modchip.

But I have seen a few reviews of them taking the 3 screws out and removing the L bracket to get to solder point D. So I know it is possible.

Yes, I did take the 3 screw out and the L plastic is almost out except it seems like it's hooking onto something near where there's some wires. While lifting the L plastic and look, I think you will have to also remove the switch too in order to solder the wire there. With the switch in place, space is really tight in there.

That's the reason why I did'nt solder D it was to tight and it made my head hurt. I wish someone will come out with a fine pin solder tip.

I have a fine pin solder tip that's like a needle small. But the switch where you need to solder "D" wire is not on the same level as where you solder the rest of your wires. The near by plastics is kind of elevated so making contact with the switch pad is almost impossible without removing the switch first.
