Help Me I've soldered my wii together

Hey guys, so I bought a WII from a friend of mine, and I was about to mod chip it when I looked at it, he had tried to do a mod chip before and completely burnt off one of the contact points. So OK no big deal I'll just solder it to the IC leg, which is reallllyyyy small, but I had a fine tipped soldering iron, and anyhow when I was doing it I accidentally dripped some solder on the pins at the bottom of the legs and now 3 of the pins are connected. I'm ready to give up on this and I would be willing to pay a pro to take care of the job for me. Does anyone know where/who I should send this to to get it fixed. It is really giving me a headache......... thanks guys.

im not sure im getting you on how bad this is? usually if you solder points together you get that saughter wic stuff that sucks it back up off the points then check with a magnaying glass to make sure they are not touching and use flux for the small point its a saughter magnet one touch your done thats how i did my wii key took me about 2 mintes to mod mine but once again We can't see how bad this is can you get a picture?

Yes I will try and get a picture this afternoon. Its just that the legs are sooooo small and there are 3 of them crossed, I dont want to ruin the wii by making it any worse, so. I'll try and get a pic here later. Thanks for the reply!

I did something like this when installing my Wiikey and removed the solder using a desoldering braid/wick, like somebody else was mentioning, you can get it from Radio Shack for like 3 bucks. Works really well.

Yeah, if you just go to RadioShack, and buy "Desoldering Braid", it's really like 3 bucks, and it works really well! All you do is take this braid, and put it on the area that you screwed up on, and you just heat up the braid with your Solder Iron! The braid heats up, and soaks up all of the solder that it is touching! I've screwed up many times, and have used this a lot! It really comes in handy!

Ok so here is a picture

A is where my friend messed up the contact point, B is the extremely small IC legs that are realllyy close together, sorry the image is blurry but if you've tried this or seen that part of the WII you know how hard this is. I was afraid to try the desolder because it will take the IC legs off too no?

sorry man that image is way to blurry Though im not sure how you got aLL the way down to the IC leggs what kind of chip is this? if you could possibly get a real good close up of both (a) & (b) we would be able to tell you if its fixable or not

Ahhh you got the legs. Im no wii expert but the legs are a bitch to desolder!! Anyway good luck! Also bit of soldering advice if you dont want to blow the wii. Before you turn anything on. Check WITH A MAGNIFIYING GLASS to make sure theres no solder connection the legs at all!

I believe Modchipman.com can fix it and mod it for you but you have to pay about 55USD just to mod it alone if you live in usa you can check it out it might be worth it because you will get your money back X10 backing up your games ;-)
You wont be able to mod it I dont think unless you have a pro look at it because I had the same thing as you I had to take mine back to the store and get a new one.

ok, my last suggestion as follows: does it even play normal games anymore? Either way call Nintendo Warranty support tell them the system isnt reading discs and that you have done all the trouble shooting, they will then replace the unit on warranty be sure to have a Credit Card because you are goiung to be doing a ARP having them ship theirs out first, and you ship yours back, When they get it back they will send you a letter telling you they wont be charging you the $200 (Yes they only charge $200) and your golden. Doubt it you want but I did the same damn thing when I tried modiing my wii for the first time with using the direct contact points and not wires learned my less on got a new wii out of it without paying a dime

LOL..Thats where my soler dripped also but on the legs of the bigger chip, like we said before, get the desolder braid and you will be good to go. I jumped two of the legs together and the braid sucked up all the solder and even all of it between the legs to. Get the braid and try it before striking this up as a loss and trying to get a replacement.

Also one other problem, when I was taking this apart I had all intentions of replacing the pain in the ass triwing screws with normal philips computer screws. So needless to say the triwing ones mostly look like I ripped the shit out of em, do you think Nintendo will notice if I replace them with phillips?

well they certainly didn't notice the Fu#@ed up saughtering job that I did it was almost as if they were just happy to get the unit back, the instant they recived it they sent me an Email telling me they wern't going to charge me

so whatever up to you, you can try to find someone to fix the mod and god knows how much they will charge you not to mention the shipping or buy a new one, good luck finding it remember $250 or you can simply take the chance of sending it to them and getting another one for free if not only $200 not much to lose from the likes of your situation but don't critisize it when you have nothing more to lose

Yah I think that that is probably the best option I have, I am definitely not criticizing it. I definitely don't want to risk paying someone 55 + shipping and have them not be able to do it. So I guess worst comes to worst I just take the 200$ from Nintendo. Thanks for the help!!!

Hey, if you want the chip installed and everything... I can do that for you! Are you getting a new Wii System or what? Just PM me! I'm not the freaks that charge a buttload for a stupid soldering job! I can do it for cheap, and it will be worth it! Though, I would prefer the WiiD chip, just because I've installed them, and I really like them! Just PM me!
