I just installed my LG GDR-8164B. It is seen by my computer and I can play a DVD from it but ImgBurn and Nero only see my other drive, not my new one. Any ideas?

I have both of my DVD drives on a single IDE cable. I have set the jumper on my new LG drive to master as have it on the end of the cable and have my other drive set to slave and connected in the middle of the cable.

Is this where my problem may be? I am only self taught at this. Any advice would be appriciated. Thanks.

RawDump seems to be recognising it and is dumping Tiger Woods right now.

I would think that that would be fine! I got my LG drive installed, and it is set to Master, and my other Drive it set to Slave (and it's all hooked up the same as yours)! You may want to switch it up, have the LG be the Slave, and have you other Drive be the Master! Try that, and see if it works!

That would explain it. Has anyone else got this drive LG GDR-8164B? Can you confirm that this is just a reader?

It does do what I got it for though. It reads Wii disks...

I have the LG GDR-8164B and I'm pretty sure that it is just a Reader! It says on the Front DVD-ROM, and when I try to burn anything with it, it doesn't work! So, I'm pretty sure that it's just a reader!

I have it. When I read this thread I was starting to think I got ripped off lol. It only reads disks and not very fast imo.

I have it, its just a reader. Nowhere did it claim to be a burner.

inapond, dude, it says DVD-ROM right on the front. There's no such thing as a DVD-ROM burner. It's either a DVD-ROM or DVD+/-RW

DVD-ROM = Digital Versatile Disc - Read Only Memory

DVD+/-RW = Digital Versatile Disc +/- ReWriteable

Yep, its not a burner. I feel a bit silly now. Good job I already had one. I have now successfully backed up a game and burned it to DVD and it works.

Thanks for all of your help...

@inapond

Just a suggestion.

It is recommended to have a DVD-ROM set to Slave and placed in the middle of the IDE Cable and set the burner to Master and set it at the end of the IDE Cable.

So if you find that the DVD-ROM/Burner are dropping into PIO mode or you have issues with the Media being burned correctly then I would switch the drives around to the DVD-ROM as slave in middle of cable and the Burner set to Master and at the end of the cable.
