illegal disk when burning DVD on external burner

Hello all,

I have a Mad Dog external burner (_NEC 2500A) connected to my Laptop. This external burner can regconize CD (with music or data) but it cannot regconize any DVD movie or DVD data.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Old drive. Could be a faulty drive, a bad cable, or a bad enclosure. If it does CDs OK and can't read a commercial DVD, I would place my bet on a faulty drive.

Try it on another system.
Change the USB cable.
If it isn't a retail external burner, open the enclosure and reseat the IDE cable on the drive.
Change enclosures.
