I'd also select the Liteon over the Samsung.

I have 5 of the Samsung burners they do great with Verbatim DVD+R but i believe not so well with the -R'S.

Here's a scan burned at 8x

@paiger651..... it's been my experience that most drives have better scans with the +R media than the -R media... I have a Philips (re badged BenQ 1620) and a BenQ 1655 and both of those are going strong and have better scans with the +Rs than the -Rs.... and I was told by other members that this holds true for most burners. Too bad the BenQ drives are no longer available.... I love mine. but I would go along with other members saying that the Lite-On drives are the best ones out there now for the buying! I have only heard great reviews and great results from the Lite-Ons! that will be my next drive... if my BenQs will ever die! LOL they just keep burning and burning and burning and burning...... hahahahaha here are some of my scans:

Yea,I have 4 1640's 6 1655's and one 1650 i like Ben-Q'S :)
I believe people were having lead in problems with the Samsung SH-S183L using -R media rather than just poor scans though.
