I am new to Wii system and am looking to purchase a modchip for my Wii.
Which one should I buy and why?
1. CycloWiz v2
2. WiiKey
Which one is worth my money and will work efficently?
I also hear that the code for wiinja is available for download. Is this true?
If so, where can I download it? Also, where can I find the instructions on how to create this modchip myself? Just wanting to do something fun.
But, please let me know which modchip I should buy.
Many Thanks!

Thats really hard to dtermine between the Two or even 3 out there The cyclowiz from what I hear is a pretty solid chip though dosent support nearly the amount of features as the WiiKey or WiiD WiiKey is easy to install vs the WiiD has a couple additional wires (one optional) WiiKey is the more popular of them that I can see being Updated more frequent than the other two in the future though WiiD has better GC Capability overall general WiiKey will be the Ideal for support more people have them whereas you want the kill switch and a bit more to saughter to have then go with it honestly it dosent matter they both get the job done, but in the meantime i wouldnt even mess with the wiiNiga you would be setting yourself up for a pretty big project little help out there for it

@Menion
There are actually less wires to solder for the WiiD then the Wiikey. There are 5 wires and 1 optional wire.
As for other remarks I will make...
Yes the Wiikey is more popular but just because allot of Wii Owners have the Wiikey doesn't mean that they offer the better chip. With any product that have competing company's out there you will never get everyone to agree on what chip is the better chip.
I have done allot of research on both the Wiikey and WiiD before purchasing my WiiD.
There are happy Wiikey owners out there but I also have run across some threads that claim the Wiikey doesn't have good Game Cube Support plus I have read allot of Wiikey buyers that have received clones of the Wiikey thinking they where the real deal.
As of yet I haven't run across any negative feedback on the WiiD plus the reviews and other threads I have read on other sites actually rate the WiiD as 1 of the best chips. With better Game Cube Support which is 1 of the main reason I went with the WiiD since I have allot of Game Cube games. Plus an extra feature to disable the chip. The WiiD has been out for a few months now and already has the original update and a second update out. I am sure another update will be coming soon.
I would hope that a Wii Owner in the market for a Wii Modchip would not solely decide on a chip based on how popular it is. You could be missing out on a great up and coming Modchip of the future.

To answer your question, between the cyclowiz (older) and the wiikey, the answer is the wiikey. I dont know much about the wiid myself, but I know that the wiikey thus far is more popular, because thats what everyone seemed to go with.

cool, I have been doing research here myself.
But I am a guy who enjoys building stuff. So does anyone know where I can download wiinja code and is there any document on how to make this wiinja chip. I read somewhere that you can buy this IC at Radio Shack and program it yourself.
Anyone know anything about this gizmo?
thanks

larrylje and just because you own the wiid does NOT mean that its better! You're always pulling for the wiid but you base it on your experience alone. I've installed both wiid and wiikey many times and the wiikey's have always given me less heartache during the install and I've had far less fail. Thats just my two cents
And as far as which has less wires? What are you smoking? The wiikey has 6 easy quicksolder points which are super easy to install with no wires whatsoever! The wiid has quicksolder points as well. Why are people even messing around with messy wire installs? Quicksolder method is cleaner and more secure.
I have also read where you claim that the wiid is more compatable with SOME GC games and that may be true but it plays all mine and I've never had any customer complainst about GC incompatablity. That may just be fixed in the next DVD update anyway.
In a community where the majority of users swear by a product, logic dictates that that chip probably is the better choice.

Modster, there are several site offering open source code so you can build it yourself but if you come across the wiinja code, avoid it like the plague. The wiinja sucks! BOTH versions. There are so many better choices now.

When did I ever claim it was the better Modchip?
Quote: I've installed both wiid and wiikey many times and the wiikey's have always given me less heartache during the install
Are you kidding me? The soldering points are both the same between the Wiikey and WiiD except point 3 which the WiiD does not use. So I don't believe 1 bit that there is much difference between soldering between the 2.
Quote: as far as which has less wires? What are you smoking? The Wiikey has 6 easy quick solder points which are super easy to install with no wires whatsoever!
What is your point with this comment? The WiiD has 5 soldering points to make the Modchip operational when Wiikey has 6 soldering points.
The only reason I brought up that point anyway is because Menion said WiiD had more soldering points then the Wiikey which is untrue.
They both have quick solder methods which if you read most reviews on both Wiikey or WiiD it is recommended to do the wire solder installation. They say the quick solder method can be messy plus a pain if you ever need to update the chip or replace it.
Quote: I have also read where you claim that the wiid is more compatible with SOME GC games
I have seen numerous Wiikey owners say the Wiikey has bad Game Cube support. This is Wiikey owners claiming it not me.
Your reply to this is there is an update coming out that could fix that problem. Well the update is not out as of yet plus there is no guarantee that this problem will be fixed. When the update comes out and if it is fixed then I will be happy for Wiikey owners.
Everything that I have said is from my experience and threads that i have read not only from this site but others.
My point mainly is how people recommend the Wiikey just because it is popular.
I have read lots of information before making a conscious decision on what Modchip to get and have seen way to much negative feedback with Wiikey clones plus the Game Cube compatibility issue.
Quote: In a community where the majority of users swear by a product, logic dictates that that chip probably is the better choice.
It only dictates that there are allot of followers in this forum. Which make their decision solely on the popular pick. I made an informative decision on choosing the WiiD and am just passing along what I have learned from searching. So if someone wants to buy the Wiikey solely on its popularity then by all means do it.

again, a biased opinion and opinion ONLY!
Quote: it is recommended
uh, according to whom? Most professional installers will ALWAYS choose the quick solder method over an unnecessary wire mod that takes up more room and can come loose much easier. Just because you might make a mess of it doesn't mean that others will. Who says it would be a pain to upgrade. Just how much experience do you have soldering? If you can't do a simple quick solder installation and removal if necessary, then you shouldn't be tinkering around insider your wii in the first place!
Let me just ask you something there larrylje. Just how many modchip installations have you done? One, on your own wii?.. well that explains your lack of experience and your claims based solely on what you have read on the internet. People aren't buying the wiikey just because it's popular. Don't throw a dark blanket of stupidity on this user community just because you think that we would make a decision based on popularity. Do some more research, gain some hands on experience and then get back to me so we can have a real debate. Until then, don't waste anybody else's time on here by making unfounded claims or regurgitated rhetoric.

"bowing down to the Mod God of Afterdawn"
Oh holy MOD GOD teach me your wisdom so I can be as cool as you.
Dude all you can do is try to get your point across with intimidation.
Quote: Just how many modchip installations have you done? One, on your own wii?.. well that explains your lack of experience and your claims based solely on what you have read on the Internet. People aren't buying the wiikey just because it's popular.
I never said I was a professional at Modding the Wii but I must be good enough if I installed my Modchip. So I would assume I could do it again. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to install it.
Lets be practical here. Most users asking how to install a Modchip are not professionals. So they are here to ask question and want to know what is the best chip. Its easy to say the Wiikey is. But give valid reasons why it is.
Plus while on the subject why are people buying the Wiikey? What does it offer that other Modchips (Like the WiiD) do not? Give me some examples of why it is so Superior over all other Modchips.
So far the only reason you came up with was the Wiikey is easier to install then the WiiD. I had my WiiD installed in 15 minutes.
Then you say...
Quote: I have also read where you claim that the wiid is more compatible with SOME GC games and that may be true
You claim that I have lack of experience but yet you seem to have agreed with me.
All your doing is running your mouth and trying to intimidate me but it isn't working. So backup what you are saying and give examples of why the Wiikey is better then the rest.
By the way have you got the Game Cube audio fix yet?

Ok this has turned into a repetitive flame war. Back to the point of the topic, between cyclowiz and wiikey, the answer is wiikey. More people currently have the wiikey, and it is a more popular choice on the forums. Now, I am not saying that means its better, just more people have experience with it so there is probably more help to be offered with that chip, currently. Not to say it wont change. Basically, you wont lose with either the wiikey or the wiid.

Nobody is trying to intimidate anybody but it sounds as if your cage is getting a little rattled. LOL. I think your hilarious thats all. Don't be so thin skinned we're just having some fun here.
I could probably list several reasons why I would suggest the wiikey over the wiid and it wouldn't matter to you anyway cause your mind is made up. I never said that the chip is superior in any way, now your just putting words in my mouth out of desperation.
You suggested that we be practical so lets be practical.
I would suggest the wiikey over the wiid for several reason, one of which DraTs has already pointed out. The rest are reasons that I (me, not the forums or what you have read online, by the way, I read online that the moon landing was shot in a studio, I guess that's true too) have come up with due to the amount of wiikey's and cyclowiz, wiinjas, and wiid's that I've installed.
1. There is a larger community with more help. You're the only psycho ninja die hard wiid fanboy that I've seen on here.
2. There is much less of a failure rate that I have seen with the wiikey (I had to send 3 wiid's back to the distributor before I got one that would work. If yours worked on the first try then consider yourself lucky)
Given just those two examples above I would NEVER recommend a wiid to anybody again. I have YET to have a customer complain about ANY games not working at all (both wii and GC games).
So if you weigh all the pro's and cons out, the one pro (wiid is compatible with like 2 extra GC games) doesn't come close to out weighing the cons with the wiid. Don't start up with the I-can-turn-off-the-wiid-when-nintendo-blocks-modchips BS either. That's just a scare tactic for people not using the wiid. It's not going to happen.
Mod God of Aftedawn huh, I kind of like that. Maybe I'll be as cool as you someday and have some ginormous picture of a mod chip as my sig and I'll include that new handle.
There see, I took your juvenile name calling and turned it around to something fun. Aren't we having fun now Larry! Ha.

Thanks for adding some valid points.
Thats all I wanted.
To many people reply to messages like this and just say the chip name but can't offer any valid reason why they think that is the best. (Saying it is popular is not a valid point)
As Drats had said they both pretty much get the job done.
As to your last post. You don't like my Sig? Maybe I need to add a Psycho Ninja to it. LOL
It will be different in a few weeks anyway after the Detroit Redwings win the Stanley Cup.

just so you guys know, Larry and I worked this out through private messages. We were just having fun with each other in this thread. Don't anybody think that we hate each other. He really contributes a lot in the wii forums and I respect that. We were just rattling each others cages out of boredom.

I will say one thing, and this does not reflect on functionality or anything, however, from the pictures, the wiikey still looks a lot prettier. I cant really explain why, but it just does lol.
