I recently purchased a wii console with chip. I got some wii games which are .iso file and tried burning them with Nero (on verbatim dvd).
First time i tried burning it at x4 speed. When putting the game into my wii, i see a thumbnail of the game, however the joystick doesn't seem to respond, so i can't pick the game to start.
Second time i tried burning it with x2 speed. When putting the game into my wii, i don't see any thumbnail of the game at all. Seems the wii don't even read the disc.

Does anyone know what i am doing wrong? Should i try burning it on x6 speed?

wow, that seems really odd... what kind of chip are you using? and did you have it profesionally installed? can you show a picture of the install job? do setup disks/gamecube games work, and how about originals?

it sounds like somethings wrong with the install....

I bought the console in china, its a japanese wii with chip which they installed for me at the spot. I am not sure what chip it is. They also got back up games which i tried out there at the shop and those back up games worked, so i guess nothing is wrong with the chip.

What do you mean the joystick? You are using the Wii Remote to launch the game and not trying to use a game cube controller right?

If the game title came up in the Disc Channel then the Modchip should be working. It more then likely is an issue with burning software/media your using/Region setting.

You say this is a NTSC(J) unit. What game are you trying to burn and play and what region is the game in? PAL/NTSC(U)/NTSC(J)?

The wii controller is working now, i discovered that i was standing to close to the tv that's why it didn't respond at first.

Anyway i tried two games, cooking mana usa (burned with imgburn at 4x speed) and rayman raving rabbits usa (burned with Nero 4x speed). Both show thumbnails on the menu screen. Cooking mana askes to make a new save file,i press ok and then the screen stays white it freezes, nothing happens after that. RAyman goes to a black screen and freezes too after asking making a save file, nothing happens.
Also i can't press the power off button to get out, seems the WII doesn't react att all. Only way to get it out is to unplug the power cable.

[BTW i got a wiikey chip built in]

I found on an other forum that other people got the same problems with their WII NTSC-J with wiikey with these particular games. Seems not all wii games can be played succesfully.

I hope later on they can fix this, so that all NTSC usa games can be played too.

Both those titles have problems playing out of region.

It seems Rayman Raving Rabbids backup will work on your NTSC(J) system but only with either the NTSC(J) Region or PAL region disc. The NTSC(U) is not compatible with the NTSC(J) system. So if you want to play Rayman Raving Rabbids find a PAL version of the game and it should work.

Cooking Mama: Both NTSC(U) and PAL are region incompatible with your NTSC(J) unit. So the only game disc you can use for cooking moma is the NTSC(J) region disc.

Here is the compatibility list that shows what games are region free compatible and what games are not.

http://wiki.gbatemp.net/index.php/Wii_Re...28USA.29_to_PAL

To see what games can be played in other regions for your NTSC(J) system you will need to browse through the list and find NTSC(U) to NTSC(J) list and PAL to NTSC(J) list. The games that are in green will work and the games in the orangish/red will not.

Make sure your looking under NTSC(U) to NTSC(J) and PAL to NTSC(J) both these list are all the way to the bottom of the page.

Wow thank u so much for this information, it will help me a lot when downloading games. Now i know which games will not burn, so i can save ending up with coasters.

BTW if i play PAL games, then it won't work on NTSC-J system right? Also as my tv is usa, it won't support PAL, so i will get black and white instead of colour?

I don't understand, do i need to patch the games first before
burning? So i need to donwload the patcher provided on the site, which one must i download?

No need to patch the game. The list is for a patcher program but you can use that list for Modchips as well that have region override on them. The Modchip in a sense is patching the game. So need need to actually patch the game disc if using a Modchip.

The Wiikey region override will play the PAL game. As long as the Over Ride is set to ON then it will play PAL games that are listed on that PAL compatibility list.

Also if your playing out of region games make sure you update and keep your Wii updated to the newest firmware.

Not doing this could result in your Wii being brick if an out of region game disc has an update on the disc. The game disc will check to see what firmware you have. If the firmware on the disc is higher then what is on your Wii it will install the firmware update to your Wii. If the disc is an out of region disc then it will install the wrong region frimware on your Wii. So keeping your Wii system updated is very important.

Oh man, i knew that there are updates for the wiikey, but i never knew that it would be done automatically once u input the game disc. The lastest firmware doesn't always mean the best right? I remember the guys from the shop told me not to update the firmware of the wiikey. I think i got firmware 2.01J.
So to be safest it is best not to play PAL games as my system is NTSC right?

Updates for the Wiikey and for the Nintendo Wii are different.

The updates that are on the game disc are for your Nintendo Wii. (as far as I know there have been 3 games with updates Super Paper Mario/Medal Of Honor - Vanguard/Spiderman 3)

If you want to update your Wiikey then you would need to go to the below link and download the latest setup disc version and burn it to DVD...

http://www.wiikey.cn/resources.html

I do not see any reason why someone would tell you to not update your Wiikey or your Nintendo Wii. Most updates are brought out to fix bugs or add features.

First of lets make something clear so you do not brick your Wii if you decide not to keep your Wii updated.

You have an NTSC(J) Wii system. This means your region games are NTSC(J) J = Japan Game Disc.

Games that are labeled NTSC(U) U = USA or PAL are out of region game disc.

So if your Wii system is not updated with the newest firmware then you do not want to play PAL or NTSC(U) games.

The safest way to go in my opinion is to keep both the Wiikey and your Wii system updated with newest firmware. Turn off the region override setting in Wiikey options and only play NTSC(J) games.

But if you want to play PAL or NTSC(U) games due to English versions then the safest way to go is make sure the Wiikey and Wii is updated. Turn on region override in the Wiikey options. Just make sure the Wii system is always updated to the newest firmware and you should have no issues with playing out of region games.
