DS simply/download play problem

Ok here is my problem. Me and my friend want to play multiplayer games on our ds's. I got an M3 with some games on it. The games we are having trouble playing are metroid:hunters, mario kart, super mario 64 ds. We are able to get metroid pinball to work just fine but the other games won't work. We are trying to play off of one cart only (the m3 in my ds). When we try hunters or mario kart I just get "communication error". Any ideas as to why this is not working?
