I quick soldered the wiikey with no problem and it was working fine until i opened it up again to show someone how it looked. It wont load any of my backups. Do you think detaching the ribbon might have caused it to go bad? Well anyways, i then decided to just do a wire solder on the chip. First things first. I bought a Solder sucker to suck that unwanted led holding the chip......unfortunatly, Pin "C" on the motherboard got sucked in so there is no more pin. I also dont have any led left. Is this fixable?!? btw, my Wii still works.

i thought you said your WiiD modchip stopped working? better fix your title there. :)

anyway ive read somewhere that you can try the alternate soldering points by tracing the point back to the chip thing but this would be harder though. theres a topic in here somewhere i think about alternate soldering points for the modchip if not try to google it.

EDIT: if your talking about the WIIKEY point C from their diagram then it would be the fifth from the left but if your talking about the WIID then its the eighth from the left. (I THINK) for i didnt really know anything about soldering nor did i solder my own chip but i have read this info from somewhere. I based it on the middle pic from the http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=wii/wiidinstall.html site.
disclaimer: i dont have any responsibility if anything further goes wrong as i have not tested this out myself but rather i have gained this info from other people. :) hope it works though

I forgot to mention that point VCC on the WIID chip got sucked up as well. Which leg does that connect to?

Do you mean the VCC on the WiiD or the Wii drive board?

I have no idea what to tell you if the VCC from the WiiD has been removed. To bad there wasn't alternate soldering spots like A, B, C and D have on the WiiD.

As to the drive board I have no answer to that either. Because the image above of the Wii drive board there doesn't seem to be a lead back to a chip.

Hi All,
Last night i chipped my Wii wit a WiiD chip. Much to my amazment it worked. i played a downloaded version of Mario Striker PAL on it and it worked fine. i went to bed and woke up burn off a Mario Party 8 USA and inserted into the Wii.

It said unable to read the disk. I thought maybe it was a bad burn or file or somet so i stuck the strikers disc back in, but this didnt work either. since then i have had a look inside twice and resoldered. i have tried to update and tried refashing the chip. but nothing wants to work!

so now disheartened i feel like throwing it at a wall even though it still plays the originals fine.

what can i do?

any help would be so greatly appriciated.

kind regards matt

This exact thing happened to my WiiD just today, it has been working great ever since I installed it (wire install), for some odd reason today it will only play originals and I cannot load any copies/backups??? I opened my wii and looked to see if any wires came undone or was not a solid enough connection, but everything was perfect, just the way I left it when I installed it... If this has happened to you or if you have any suggestions please post them below...thanx

Try reformatting the Wii system. You can do this by going to the Wii settings. I have heard other people with Wiikeys and other Modchips that come upon these problems and they have solved it by formating the Wii system.

I don't know how formatting the wii system memory will fix it... Did I mention I have a WiiD, not a wiikey or any other chip... I really don't wanna delete all my save files (some cannot be copied onto SD Card) and find out that formatting the system memory did not fix the problem, I think I may have a faulty chip, I'll keep screwing with it some more and see how it goes, if I have to I will reformat my system memory and hopefully that works...

The reason I said to try formating is I have read threads with other users having this issue. I think a WiiD was included with the below issue as well. The solution was to format the Wii System to get the backups working properly again.

Usually the issue was caused by starting a Wii game that had an update on it and either the update was stopped by the user (In fear of a region brick issue) or the update hangs for some reason and the Wii is turned off or reset without the update completing.

When running a game disc with an update on it their is some sort of information stored on the Wii to let it know that the game disc update was already run and if it had updated properly or not. This is where I think the problem can occur. Reformatting the Wii system will delete all that stored information.

It could very well be the Modchip but it also could be numerous other things and I would recommend you try all other options before messing with or replacing the Modchip itself.

It is up to you what you want to do but I am just passing on information that you could try before taking the chance of screwing up your Wii even more by opening it up and messing with the Modchip before making sure all other possibilities are checked first.
