Holy christ! About time!

Needless to say, I think I'll pick up 200. I've been making all these backups even though I didn't have any discs to burn them on.

Thanks for the heads up!

How about Verb DL's... I really need some and I'm not sure if Sam's Club will give me a 'Vistor Pass'. A 50-pack comes out to be approx $1.40 each which is the best I've found in a long time.

I would love to provide some links, but I'm not sure if it is against the forum rules to post links from outside.
However, you can always yourself google to find out about issues with Verbatim's PAP6 and MAP6 !

About a 2 months ago, I bought 2 verbatim 16x DVD- 25 packs(code MCC03RG20). I burned a couple of movies on them , my way of testing a video I burn, is to open it on POWERDVD (I think any other DVD playing program will work also) and while playing it I use the seek bar to fast forward and rewind if the video freezes or hangs during this process I know I have problems(these backups kept freezing up my computer). When I did a quality test with Nero, these DVD's where testing out as low as 30 percent. In these forums I found other users also had problems with these DVD's. I recommend everyone to test a couple before buying large quantity's of them. Incidently the verbatim 16x DVD+ (code MCC 004) are excellent, testing out at 99 percent for me. I hear a lot of good reviews on verbatim DVD media but my opinion is to stay away from the MCC03RG20 or maybe I just bought a bad batch.

@jony218:

This could be owing to a number of factors: What brand of burner you're using, the firmware version, what brand of playback device you're using, the speed of the burn, the processor speed of your system, amount of RAM. And yes, it could be a bad batch of discs too. I've seen the same thing on a lower end machine I use occasionally, regardless of the media brand. I've even seen it on commercially pressed movies. And I use PowerDVD, too - gotta love it!

In my situation, I was advancing too far too fast, which caused me to freeze up. Now as for the lower quality areas, it could be a separate issue. I'm certain some of the good folks here will have some great suggestions. They always do. This is a great place to get the answers you need.

Happy burning!

Back a few months ago myself and a lot of other members bought Verbatim 16x DVD-R and were a mixed batch of brands of media from OM at $8.00 for 50, they were really bad I took back over 300 of them. I can't remember all the members at the time but I know cincyrob was one of many. At the time this was in the Ty forum. Some of these wouldn't be recognized by the burners and ones that did burn would freeze. So you may have got a batch of these. Have no problems with the +R's Chris
Edit The link for the problems was in post your dvd scans here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/19/415515

I've never had a problem with Verbatim. I have 6 binders filled with discs and more than 4 of them are filled with Verbatims. When the 8x were around, I had them, and now that 16x is standard, I have them too--none have given me problems.

All my burners are frequently cleaned, its firmware updated, and taken care of. I've only used +R (why would I use -R if I can booktype +R to ROM). Again, never had one single problem.

It could just be that you got a bad batch. I've never come across MCC03RG20.

Hi Mr_Pink These Verbs from OM was just before Christmas DVD Identifier couldn't name half of them.Out of 3 different packs I had maybe 5 out of 40 that were okay.I'll have to find one and post a screen shot. So I'm thinking jony218 may have gotten a hold of some of these. Chris

Ditto on that! I bought some Verbatim dvd-r's from office max and i took them all back and traded them in for Verbatim dvd+r's . Boy what a headache that ordeal was! Speaking from my experience Verbatim DVD+R media is Gold, Verbatim DVD-R media is like nitro it can explode in your face! This is from my experience only though, but boy did a lot of people on this forum go through the exact same thing. I would say buyer beware on the Verbatim DVD-R media. This is just my two cents worth, take it or leave it! /Unjust

What do you mean about Verbs -R being nitro? Is something wrong with them? I just recieved 200 4x -R white inkjet printables coded MCC 01RG20 from Meritline & burned the first disc. Haven't tested it but hopefully it should be OK. I only bought the 4x media because it's $22 per hundred which I thought was a great deal. They are made in Tiawan....

bratcher these were the 16x -R's non printable that came from Office max and a pack I'd picked up at one of the other stores.Never seen any problems with 16x +R'sor 4x.I swapped 600 back in for the +R's no problems what so ever. The -R's weren't recognised or if they were and recorded unreal playback freezing skipping you name it. Had nothing to do with burners or firmware hell half of them for name gave a gobbly goop of letters.Just beware of the 16x-R's IMOHO. Chris
Just found the spindle with three left on it wouldn't recognise 2 and the other one started a burn and quit. This brings back the nightmare all over again. If I remember right a couple were cmc wish Cincy was around I know he'd remember what all they were coding out to when the burners did take them. Chris

Well that sucks! I just picked up 5 spindles (250 discs) this morning. They were all +R, obviously. But yeah, if you can, post a screen cap of those bum verbatims. I'd like to see it--just outta curiosity.

I haven't opened my spindles yet (I went to work right after Best Buy). I'll let you know if these are the bum ones--I doubt it though.

I have noticed there are variations in the quality of Verbatim DVD+R 16X media...mainly because they are outsourced to different manufacturers..CMC and Prodisc. I have 11 spindles (50 cakebox)of Verbatim DVD+R 16x and while all code out as MCC04 there are three different codes on the inner hub...PAPA, PAP6, and "just serial numbers". I believe the PAPA and PAP6 are made by CMC and the "serial numbers" I belive are Prodisc made. The order of quality has been "in my experience" first PAPA, second PAP6 and lastly "serial numbers".

8 of my spindles which are PAPA and PAP6 all have a deeper lip (rim) (about 1/4 inch) on the top plastic spindle versus and the other 3 with the "serial number" verbatims which have a lip approx. 1/8 inch deep.

Don't know if this holds true all the time, perhaps some of you with many spindles of 16X +R Verbs can check yours out to see if this holds true....

But in the future when I need some more +R 16x Verbs, it is going to be the "feel" test to see which Lip (rim) is deeper.....
