Anyone heard of this, its gonna have storage of up to 2000 GB, and soon going to replace HD-DVD, and Blu-ray. Does that mean it could have resolution superior to HD, and make Blu-ray and HD-DVD obsolete.
It main featue is a lot more storage. It uses 720p as it's native format. I haven't seen where it has any better picture quality.
With all the 1080p hype, I doubt this 720p player will make it.
Quote:Holographic Versatile Disc (HVD) is an optical disc technology still in the research stage which would hold up to 3.9 terabytes (TB) of information. It employs a technique known as collinear holography, whereby two lasers, one red and one blue-green, are collimated in a single beam.
It's important to point out:
Quote: the reader will cost around US$15,000, and a single disc will cost around US$120?180, but prices are expected to fall steadily.[7] The market for this format is not initially the common consumer, but enterprises with very large storage needs.
The HVD that HD_Nut is referring to is the High-Definition Versatile Disc or High-Clearness Versatile Disc format that is very popular in China and other Asian countries:
Quote:HVD is an Asian standard of advanced high-definition technology originally developed in China by AMLogic Inc., for high-definition video. The format resolutions support 720p, 1080i, or 1080p on version 1 discs.
While the format is referred to as HVD it has no relation to the Holographic Versatile Disc format that came along later and used the same acronym.
Though popular in China, the format, much like VCD, has had little acceptance outside of Asia. Discs are rarely found for sale outside of Asia.
