ratDVD on a Virtual PC

I am not a Windows wizzard but I received a ratDVD compressed presentation which I need urgently convert.
No PC around just a Virtual PC (with Windows 2000) on my Mac. Initial trial to install ratDVD failed so I went through the following
- installed W2000 Service Pack 4
- installed DirectX9
- I had already Windows Media Player 9
Still no luck, no warning from the installer but he refuses to install XEBEncoder.

I need a DVD player ? I loaded one of the lightweight free ones (Media Player Classic v6.4.9.0), didn't help
I tried a ratDVD .6 and 2 different .7 - no luck

What else can I do ?
