I am a very experienced solderer, and have modded about 23 PSX and a hand full of psOnes (streamlined ps1). I was always a big stealth v5 fan, and would even change the power LED to blue, and add a red led that would indicate when the chip was activated. the effect was your psx would power up blue, and that light would blend to purple when the modchip was sending data. looked pretty snazzy... though the external chip socket mounting i did was originally intended to make it easy to upgrade your chip, turns out you didnt really need to... but thats just how it goes sometimes.
Other than that i'm big on circuit bending and making custom pcb's for guitar fx pedals.
sometimes i solder copper pipes together to take out frustrations with surface mounted components. >,<
Im just now modding my ps2, more out of boredom, and the longing to try my hand at home brew ps2 software, ive done home brew psx demo's and such, even a basic mouse-compatible win 3.x style OS for the psx... pointless it was definitely, and the only progs on it was a calculator and a clock... but it still worked...
But what i'm trying to dig at here is what mod chip do you use, and how well does it work? share the quirks?
lets get a reasonably difinitive database of mod chips going, and hopefully be able to help more people who are just getting into the mod scene, especially those who are unskilled with the iron. share the difficulty in installing it, and definitely your feedback about where you ordered it. oh and what version psx you have.
This is something that could benefit everyone, and im really excited to see what everyone has to say about it.
