Hi I don't want to play in DX10, but I hope this PC can run games smoothly:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.4GHz
ATI Radeon X1950 XTX with 512 VRAM
320 GB HD
2GB DDR2
19" LCD

for $1400 taxes included. Is it any good? Thanks. If there is better DX9 card that's not very costly, tell me. Thanks.

^_^ no sig.

Yeah, change your card to a DX10 compatible one and you'll be all set. Also, this is in the wrong forum. Try "PC Hardware," next time.

Sorry, didn't see the PC Hardware forum. But DX10 cards are expensive, very expensive and not very useful for anything but games. Why should I buy DX10 card?

Your original subject was for a GAMING PC. Therefore a DX10 video card would be the most important thing for GAMING :)
Future games will utilize DX10 and if you don't get one, then you'll be shopping for a new video card soon enough.
My advice: buy a DX10 card, you won't regret it.
How about a DX10 video card for LESS than $100 ?

What is the point of buying a DX10 card that can run both DX9 and DX10 games like crap? I mean, I already have ATI Radeon X1400 Mobility for games like "battlefield 2 or CS:S or HL2". I doubt that such cheap card can run DX10 games anywhere near smooth. Seriously.

Quote - "Probably about the equivelent to a 7600 speed wise. Not the fastest thing in the world."

And it's not like I like Vista anyways as it contains a lot of bugs and consumes too much CPU power compared to XP.

Never said that a cheap DX10 card would be the BEST gaming card available or anything like that. I was pointing out that not all DX10 cards are "very expensive". You want top of the line you WILL pay for it. You want acceptable performance, it can be bought for an "affordable" amount. A GOOD DX10 card will cost near the same as the ATI card that you mentioned....like the 8800 series.

I can see how this thread is going, so I'll just say what will make you happy: But a DX9 video card, and enjoy it while it lasts.
But you'll spend more $$ in the long run.

pay $1400 for that and your getting ripped off big time. go to newegg.com, buy the parts from there and build it. And dont get an x1950. Get an 8800GTS, those can outperform x1950s and it only costs around $270 for a 320MB and $360 for a 640MB one. And an 8800 supports DX 10 so that will make you alot better off in the near future.

X2 3800, A8n deluxe motherboard, 7800GT, Xion 2 case
2GB Patriot DDR 400, Audigy 2 ZS gamer, 400GB SATA RAID 0
games Im looking forward to: bioshock, SSBB, enemy territory quake wars, halo 3
currently playing: command and conquer 3, supreme commander, counter strike, shivering isles

$279 U.S. isn't quite the same in CAD. 8800GTS is expensive, I want to buy it, but does it have any other uses other than Gaming?
