I have no idea, maybe thats what nintendo uses lol, usually LG has pretty crappy stuff, I am just as curious as you are. But is it really that big of a deal to spend 18 bucks on a new drive?

It's special because the Magic Wii Fairy sprinkled Mii's all over the DVD-ROM.

Actually I found this on another site...

Q: Why are the known Wii disc backup LG drives the only ones you can use for backup purposes?

A: Because they are GDR models, which is what the Wii console uses. GD-Rom is the Nintendo Wii's burning format.

When I use Rawdump2.0 with my computer it says Wii disc dected and Getting DVD name. Than it stops and says Error you may have a faulty drive! I dont have a LG drive. But does that mean min works halfway?

It means you don't have a compatible drive.

You need to use a compatible LG drive for it.

without knowing what they sell at frys thats a difficult answer to give. surely it would be best to go down there and ask? If you buy a drive that isnt one of the LG drives listed and it doesnt work what will you do? bet they wont take it back

or better still do a google search for the lg drives and buy one off the net like i did for about £15

not sure, as the LG drives can only read the discs when using RAWDUMP 2.0. unless there is software for the DC that does same job?
