when i am usin ubuntu linux it will not let me write to my backup hdd. it says you dont own or have permission when i create a launcher for aim it says not aloowed.

i dont think i chacnged and configurations. it just finished installing.

will some plz help

try
sudo chown -R username /mount_location/

well that didn't owrk cause it will not let me type in the admin password.

also how would i gain acces to my backup hdd

so when you put that into the terminal it didnt let you enter a password? also it should be +R not -R

i did your r thing and then when it asks for the password it wont let me type anything else in the terminal.

i also have already uninsalled and reinstalled it that didn't help.

i think i know what you are talking about. when it asks you for your password and you type it. it will not show that your are typing anything. but you realy are. so when it asks for your password type it in and press enter. it is basicly the same as only showing *** when you type a password.

when i put in the cammond the pass works now but it says bad chown option
