Question about playback issue

I'm in need of a little help. I'm new at all this DVD stuff, and having some playback problems on a DVD and hopping I can get some help.

I bought a R2 DVD from Japan recently. Just got it in today. At the moment I only have a R1 DVD player. I plan to get a region free one later on.

Anyways, I decided to copy the R2 DVD to a DVD+R. It copied perfect. The picture and sound are clear as can be. One problem. When I rewind a scene - sometimes it was just freeze and say playback not allowed and then start all over. If I let it play without rewinding, it works perfect. I have this copied onto a single layer DVD. Can anyone tell me if I were to copy the R2 DVD onto a dual layer DVD - would this help and stop the freezing and restarting?
