I have a new pluscom router and i risk getting kicked off my torrent sites if i dont become "clever" or connectable.i have tried to forward my ports but it keeps asking for a port map.i havent a clue.by the way i use BitTornado.
any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Hi dexter!

Please give me a little more details on what exact router it is.

It sounds like you havnt set up the portforwarding right in the router. You say you have forwarded the ports, but if it asks for a port map (what does? the torrent prog?) something isnt right.

Please give more details and I will do my best to sort you.

btw use DC++ instead its so much more fun ;)

-> dc++ site <-

ok

Rule Name: Torrent Port 1 (alt. name of prog)

Protocol: TCP/UDP (or only TCP if thats the only choise)

Port Start: 20000 Port End: 20000

Port Map: (In my case) 192.168.1.2 (your local IP)

To find your local IP:
klick start button, then run, then type cmd in the box
and klick ok, then in black window type ipconfig and hit enter
there you should see 192.168.1......

Note that the port range is from the same port to the same port.

Dont forget to save the configuration of the router and apply changes. It varies a little from router to router but in some cases you need to restart the router after saving.

Please tell me if this is unclear and I will help you further.

added to above:

dont forget that 20000 is the open port you put in the p2p program you use.

In some cases you have to open more then one port. And sometimes one has to be TCP and one UDP like in DC++, but just repeat the same procedure and change what you have to.

good luck :)

try another torrent client and see if you get same message

make sure your firewall or windows firewall isnt blocking the program

try disabeling firewalls for a moment only to see if they cause the

problem, but remember to turn them on back and make special exceptions for torrent
