my apologies in advance to all the Nero experts here, but i have to ask the same question you've all heard hundreds of times before... what is causing my ROM burning errors? i just switched over to Nero to give it a try and i can't seem to get it to work. i've done my searching of the forums, followed all the tips i've read for people with this problem (try japanese produced cd's, clean your registry, reinstall the disk drive, update firmware, etc.). i've tried taiwanese and japanese disc's (4 different producers) and i've tried different combinations of all the settings in the burn compilations menu, in addition to burning at least twice at every speed by burner is capable of burning at. one week of effort and enough coasters to satisfy a small army. could one of you scan this log and see what newbie error jumps out at you, please? or else just tell me to go buy a new external DVD/CD drive with fresh drivers/firmware... which is what i should have done from the start.

many thanks in advance!

Hi rhaus
Nothing really looks that wrong in the log. 78% is in use so free some up but probalby won't cause a burn to fail - going lower might though.

Run a disc defrag and virus can recently - only other 2 that you didn't mention. May help but always good to do.

When did this problem started - anything change pc wise?
What other programs to burn have you tried that failed?

If you do pick up a new external make sure you have at least a 2.0 usb or firewire port. I'm thinking this a bit older laptop(?) and in some older ones they weren't standard.

i finally fixed the problem, and here's what i did incase anyone is having similar problems. it was a registry problem that the registry cleaner missed. i'll break it down monkey style:

find your way to the Device Manager and uninstall your cd-r/dvd drive.

i use a <HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4241N> cd-r/dvd drive.

first go to START ==> RUN ==> type "regedt32.exe"
next go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ==> SYSTEM ==> CurrentControlSet
==> Control ==> Class

in this directory my "UpperFilter" and LowerFilter" should have been in this folder: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} but they were in this folder: {4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

find the "UpperFilter" and LowerFilter" inside this folder and delete them.

reboot you computer X 2 and Nero was as good as gold. burned my new slipstreamed ISO image perfectly at x4 speed on new Maxell CD-R Pro(taiyo yuden produced) cd.

hope that helps someone.
