Hello forum!
I just installed my wiikey (I was unaware of the prevalence of clones at the time of purchase, and do not know if it is original. It was purchased from Consolesource.com), and it is behaving oddly. My soldering skills are suspect, but I thought I'd get some experienced advice before taking the torch to my wii again.
When the wii is OFF, and I insert the SETUP disc, it turns on, and recognizes it as a game cube disc, and I can run it.
When the wii is ON, any backup discs inserted give me an unable to read error, OR a Disc error, restart system.
ORIGINAL Wii games play just fine, but no backups have been recognized yet.
I've seen this problem alluded to, but I don't know what it means.
Try "HIGH" quality media, Such as Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Make sure they are - and not +. I had to try 4 different discs before I finally bought a pack of Verbatim DVD-R and it solved all my problems.
It would also be helpful if you post:
-What kind of Discs you are using now.
-What Speed you are burning at (2x,4x,8x,16x?)
-Type of burner and if your Firmware is up to date.
But it sounds like a media problem, look around the forums it is very common to go through 3-4 different discs till you find what works for you.
First I have to ask, what type of dvds are you using to burn your games? Your best bet is to use Verbatim DVD-R. Also when you download some games, you have to "unscramble" them using rawdump 2.0 but I doubt thats the problem. if the file you download ends in .iso then its good to go, if it ends in .wii then you need to unscramble. Hope this helps.
yeah cause I got mine from consolesource.com and it works great... i know everyone in here says memorex sucks but thats what i use... really the only important thing is that you burn at a very slow speed like 2 or 4 x.... then they should work great
I've been using memorex +R, and it seems interesting that the setup disc reads just fine off of a +R, but none of my other burns do. Does it have something to do with GC image formatting?
I will scrape up some verbatim DVD-Rs and see if they are golden.
I resoldered my wiikey this afternoon, this time using the quick solder instead of the wire install, and I have no doubt that the connections are solid, with no cross contamination.
Thansk for the advice, I'll let you know how it goes.
This may be irrelivant if your backup is of one of your originals (same region), not a download (different region). Is your backup disk from the same region? When I recieved my wiikey I had to boot off the setup disk and and enter the modify config section and turn on the Region overide option. I was then able to play SPM wich was NTSC US on my PAL Aus console.
I resoldered my chip using the quick solder method, made sure all my connections were solid, and then the verbatims worked like a charm. I appreciate all the help I got from this forum.
