PAL Wii's, what's the difference?

Hi there, i was reading up some more on backups and i read about someone having a PAL wii from Australia - now if i used an australian game on my UK wii, will it make a difference firmware wise? And also if ther was an online game e.g. Mario Strikers, and i used a Australian backup, would i connect to the UK lobby or AUS lobby - if there is a lobby that is!? Thanks!
