Ok so here is my problem.

Im using a laptop and trying to burn a DVD but i cant. I am also using an external Lite-ON DVDRW SOHW-812S DVD Burner.

Usually when I insert a disk in my drive Nero picks it up and chooses a speed for me, but now it dosent.
I found out when this happens, when I try to burn the disk It says that its burning but at the very end it stops and says burn failed. when I try to burn with My laptops burner I get this Log from Nero.

2:44:17 AM #19 CDR -1135 File Writer.cpp, Line 302

2:44:18 AM #24 Phase 38 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1725
Burn process failed at 4x (5,540 KB/s)

Ive had this problem like a week ago but when i restarted my computer all worked fine, but now no luck with that.

I THINK I have the latest firmware.

I also tried using IMG-Burn but i get the same results.
I also installed ASPI and Nero Info-tool says that they are fine.

I dont know what else to do.
So I came here to AD because you guys never let me down. :)

Any help???

EDIT: Also when thins happens Windows dosent shutdown properly. It get stuck on the "Windows is Shuting Down" screen and I need to power down manually.

first try the usuals:
shutdown all programs (EVEN ANTI VIRUS!!!)
burn at a slower speed

also check what media you are using (http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_identifier.cfm)

after that get back with us with the details :)

Ok so here is what I did:

I shut down all programs and and tried it. Didn't work.
Ran CCleaner did a restart and tried it again. Didn't work.

Was trying to burn a 2X.

Im using good disks Verbatim DVD+R w/AZO+

If i remember correctly the Burner on my laptop always gave me problems even with IMG-Burn before I had THIS problem it would show that it was trying to write to disk but couldn't, and then would stop after to many retrys. But my laptop burner is a piece of $*it so i dont care about it that much. It more of my external one that I care about.

Anyways did what was asked and still didn't work.

Any other suggestions???

UPDATE

When I open MY Computer it shows the drive as a DVD-RW Drive, but when I insert a Blank DVD disk all the sudden it changes to a CD-Rom Drive.
And Just to check I ran Nero and when It asked for a disk, I inserted a non-blank DVD and what do you Nero detected it and locked on the correct Speed as usual, buy then I inserted a blank DVD and it went back to being broken.

Could it be that the drives are corrupted. I also installed the a Firmware that makes it Region Free also just a couple of days ago.

I wont be watching any movies tonight Will I?

I dont have another Computer to try the drive on.

I searched some more and decided to install DVD Identifier and I got this.

[18:53:20] DVD+R/+RW Medium Detected. Starting Identification...
[18:53:20] ** Initiating ADIP Retrieval Method 1 (Original ADIP)
[18:53:20] ERROR : ADIP Read M1 Failed : Illegal request - Invalid field in CDB [05/24/00]
[18:53:20] INFO : ADIP Read Method 1 Not Supported ; Method 2 Will Be Attempted
[18:53:20] ** Initiating ADIP Retrieval Method 2 (Copy Of ADIP)
[18:53:20] ADIP Read Method 2 Completed Without Errors
[18:53:20] Disc Identification Completed Successfully

and it says that it was manufactured by Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. which I found is in relations with Verbatim So I think Im good there.

I dont know what else to do...
