Hi all, I've been a long time reader but had never had to post before (search button), but now I've come across a problem that hasn't been widely reported as far as I can tell. I have a PAL Wii with a Wiikey modchip. The modded wii was playing backups with no trouble until today. I got a copy of Super Paper Mario which I can only assume was NTSC (I don't think they have even made a PAL version yet). And yes before you ask I updated the firmware of the Wii before attempting to play the game (This was on May 26th '07). Super Paper Mario would not boot when I attempted to play it. After that no backups will work, including ones that were working previously. Original games still work but that kind of defeats the purpose of having a mod chip. So to summarise
PAL Wii (AUS) + WiiKey Modchip + Latest firmware update + Super Paper Mario
=
No backups, originals still work
I have checked the install and it is not as simple as the wiikey solder coming unstuck or something like that, so at first glance it appears the WiiKey is bricked.
Suugestions I have received so far is to try updating the WiiKey from the DVD, but just like backups the Wii will not recognise the disc. Others suggested I 'reinitialize' the Wii by formatting the memory, I guess because of some software conflict due to internet channel or something like that. As of yet I have not tried reformatting my Wii but will do so in the near future and let everyone know how it went.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Or a way to fix it?

Follow the advice you have received and format your Wii drive and reinitialize the Wii.
Ok so I've been trawling through the forums trying to find people with the same problem, looks like its similar to what these people have reported:
Quote:Experts, i need some help ... ANYTHING that you think of can type here... nothing is useless to me since i am a super noob. i am using a NTSC wii... i mod my wii with wiikey and it was working prefectly... however, one day.. my girlfriend didn't know that i mod the wii so she rented the paper mario from rogers for fun... it was fine when she was playing it... but after she is done... the wii don't read the back up games anymore... i heard that the paper mario brick the PAL wii.. but i never heard that it has problem with NTSC... but it is HAPPENING TO ME... please ... so anyone know how to fix it back? THANKS YOU GUYS. i already did something that i saw in this website for example, format the wii and delete all the channels, update the wii (my wii is already in the most updated version). Anyone has ANY OTHER ideas? THANKS AGAIN
Quote:I updated my NTSC Wii (with a Wiikey already installed) with the Paper Mario NTSC game update WITHOUT being connected to the internet and having updated that way. The update failed, my WII rebooted and not it will not play backups, only original discs. I then updated the Wii through the Internet which worked, but backups will still not play...
Should I replace the chip with another Wiikey or Cyclowiz, or am I out of luck because the 512 flash ram has been altered?
Prior to this I had no problems playing any of my backups (burnt on Ritek DVD-R at 4x. I did already try unplugging the Wii and removing the battery backup, but the problem remains....
Quote:Please Help, i have the same problem with surfnet90 which i have a NTSC wii, played NTSC paper mario (rent in Rogers so it should be NTSC) and the wiikey start to have problem,at first wii couldn't read the back up disc until you put a oringal in, load it and load the back up again) and finally it just stopped working. Now it work fine on oringal disc but would not read any back up disc. i tried to method from surfnet90 (which is, formate your wii, put in paper mario. His wiikey came back for his but not mine) please help ~
Does anyone have any idea about what is happening here, it looks like SPM and Strikers is doing something to the Wiikey, I didn't even think that was possible?
