Is it possible to copy protected dvd's with Nero I would never do so but my friend says you can and i don't believe him.

Nero will not back-up a protected disk.
Even if the protection could be suppressed (allowing Nero to read the original) most protected disks contain more data than can be contained within a regular, single layer disk, so you would get a message from Nero saying that a 'copy' was not possible and to insert a larger capacity (double layer) disk.

A better solution would be to use the likes of DVDFabDecrypter to rip the disk and let Nero Recode author the backup.

Insert disk, run program, select 'Main Movie'
