I'mm wanting to put a Wiikey into my Wii, but all i have is a Antex 12w soldering iron. Would this be ok or is it too cold?
Also i have two other questions...
What size tip do you use?
Is any solder ok or does it have to be silver solder...or have silver in it or whatever? As i have both, but the silver takes longer to melt with my 12w.
If you have nothing constructive to say then why say it?
This is an occurring thing with forums these days....you always get someone like you who wants to but in and try and flame with out even helping nobody out or nothing...in future just don't it doesn't help nobody and makes you look like a smarmy little git.
I actually have soldered before as part of my University degree amongst other things and was quite good at it, but i have not done it for a couple of years (except this one kit i had to make a few months ago). I haven't even opened the Wii up yet that's why i was asking about the tip size.
I know what i have to do and how to do it, i just want to make sure i have the right tools first, i know people have been saying 15w but can 3w make that much of a difference.
To answer your question, a 15-20 watt soldering iron will do. Not too hot not too cold. Just make sure you dont burn off the point. And I have no idea what you mean by silver somebody else can anser that. And lastly you need a thin tip soldering iron. Good luck.
P.S. If you have problems instaling the wiikey post here and DONT make a new thread.

Thanks for the reply...
Just to clarify the silver solder stuff is called Silver Bearing Solder or there is just plain lead free solder...which should i use did you use?
Also the reason i asked about the 12w Soldering iron good enough, is that i have 2 soldering irons, one is 25w and the other 12w. I have just done a bit of practice with my 12w tinning wires and soldering them to other wires and other pieces of metal, and it actually melted the solder really quick so i wasn't having to hold it there for too long. So do you think i would be ok with the 12w iron?
Also about the tips. The tip i have is quite small (could be 1mm), but it is one of those flat angled tips and not like the ball point pen tip, which ones are best?
Here is a list of what i can choose from for my soldering iron (goto Replacement bits on the website):Antex
Also one final question (for the moment) Does soldering Flux go out of date? And is this solder ( Powerflow Flux) the wrong one i found it laying around...i know the one i have is quite old.
try to use the smallest iron as possible. You will be shock once you see how small the wiikey is and even shocker when you see how close each point is next to each other. Anyway, i assume you have experiences in soldering. So, it shouldn't be any problem (I did it and it was my first time soldering) If you never solder before, then it's a two man job. One holding the wire, another do the soldering by using two hands. Using two hands is less shaky than the one hand for me.
