Theres allot of threads out there on this same exact question try searching next time you will find all the answers and more. But the good thing is your looking at the 2 #1 chips so thats good, I feel both are pretty much about the same right now the huge differences are WiiKey is direct saughter to the Board - Wiid uses Wires method (choose your method) and lastly Wiid has an optional wire to install a switch that will turn the chip on and off whereas the WiiKey uses Stealth mode.
In the end the biggest conclusion comes down to both of the chips have the fewest problems the wiikey is more popular than the wiid but those out there who own either one don't seem to have any complaints - if your looking just to play back-ups and emulators both do just as good of job though mark my words "Speculation"
--- The Wiid supposedly has better compatability with Gamecube Games (Sound to be Exact) yet the WiiKey has promised fixes in their next upgrade--
So it really comes down to if you think direct board saughtering or wire method is the easiest both install in the same place you can get them from the most reliable retailer in the market www.modchipstore.com

Not to be rude but I read allot about WiiD not having the option to quick solder and you have to wire install it. This is not the case it can be quick soldered as well.
But as stated above it seems WiiD has better compatibility for Game Cube games. This might be different when the new update comes out for the Wiikey.
But for the most part they both get the job done and get it done very well.

Do some research and decide for yourself. I myself believe making them for less than $2 with your own programmer and say Wiinja v2 code is hard to pass up.

Hey all, looking for some guidance here, I read about the chips but information seems scarce about what happens online?
I'd like to chip my sons consoole but don't want to have his account banned or anything. I see that the Wiid has a switch, and the wiikey has "stealth mode". How is the performance? Can anybody give me a heads up to what effects they may have online?
Thanks in advance :)

@jackorama
So far there has been no effect. The only online game out so far is Mario Strikers for PAL version Wii's.
Due to Region free Modchips both PAL and NTSC(U) Wii owners have been playing the game online with out any trouble. That doesn't mean there will be a problem in the future but as of now you will not be banned when playing online with a Modchip.

Go with the WiiD! I had this problem when I was thinking of buying a chip! I was thinking of either the Wiikey or the WiiD! I eventually went for the WiiD, because larrylje here helped me with what it can do! I have not had any problems with it, and it is working Great!!! If you still do not know which chip you want, then do some research! I personally would go with the WiiD!!!

I haven't heard anything like that for the WiiD! Question though... Why would you want to do that? I really don't know why you would want to dump a game on an SD Card?

You can use Torrent sites to download the Game, and then just burn the .iso to a disc! That's what I've done for some of mine! I can't however list any of the sites because that is against the forum rules! IF you need any help, just PM me!

@ larrylje, many thanks for your help. As you say, impossible to tell what will happen in the future, but nice to know all is good at the moment.
