About a week ago, we bought an Epson R260 printer so I can print directly onto CDs and DVDs and the wife can print some pix. Anyway, I finally install it and we do a few test runs on some pictures that were taken by a professional photographer and given to us by him. I was disappoint with the picture quality of the pictures when printed on various sheets of glossy paper. Skin tones were orangeish on the glossy paper but they were ok on matted paper. We're using the original ink carts that came in the box and cheapy paper (for now) until we dial this thing in. If I remember correctly, we selected, "best picture (2nd from the right), glossy photo paper, 5x7". Those are our settings. Should we select "photo enhance"? Or any other settings? Is it our paper, maybe chemicals reacting with the ink? We did buy some glossy paper at Costco but I'm hestiant to open it until I resolve this PQ problem.

this is probably the reason why, i have an Epson R220, and also had mixed results when printing on paper other than epson paper. when it comes to epson printers in my experience using their paper is the only way to go.
i also have a R800 too, which also had poor results when using cheap paper.
Thanks for the reply. Yeah a quick google search turned up this same problem for other users. Solution, get Epson paper. I'll swing by Walmart and pick up some Epson glossy paper soon. We bought some generic ink carts that we have on standby for when the original ink goes bye bye. Anyway, it's my hope that the generic ink cartridges aren't so damn picky and that problem goes away. That's my hope anyway.
i have not seen any problems with the generic ink and printing on dvds, but i have not tried it on glossy paper so i dont if there is a difference, although i have read that a lot of AD members saying there was nothing wrong with using generic ink and photo printing.

Is that generic ink and generic photo paper or with Epson photo paper?
Anyway, OM has Epson glossy photo paper buy one get one free at $22.99 for the 50pc box (8.5 x 11"). So you get 100pcs for $22.99. Staples has Epson Premien PP 4x6 for $7.99 for 100pcs.
I went yesterday and stocked up and gave the Epson photo paper w/ the orignal Epson ink and it made a big difference over the generic paper.
I have the R200 printer. For the past two years, all I've used is the generic ink and cheap paper. All has done very well. I print the dvd covers, on the photo paper, and they look great. I've printed a few photos, and they have all looked very good too.
The settings I use with the photo paper is:
Quality Option: I just use "Text" or "Text & Image"(Usually just "Text")
Paper Options: For type of paper, I ALWAYS use "Premium Glossy Photo Paper" option. These settings have always worked very well for me.
I always buy the cheapest photo paper I can find. Photo paper is so outrageously high. I've never used Epson's photo paper. The paper I'm using now, came from Sam's Club. It was about $18 for 150 sheets of 8 1/2" x 11" High Gloss. The brand is Royal Brights. Name brands cost $18 for 50 sheets or less, normally. I'll get more of this paper, when this runs out.

JVC- Yeah I used The paper you mentioned for DVD covers myself ! & works pretty darn well at That ! Luckily I caught a Markdown at samsclub a while back ! & I got a load of Jet Printphoto Brand Multi purpose Photo paper Real cheap so I stocked up !!! I'm good for awhile on picture paper but hey if I find another great deal I;m there dude ! I've used various Brands of PHoto paper & most are Pretty good ! The main difference I've found if we're comparing apples to apples or in our case Glossy Photo paper to Glossy Photo paper is the wieght/thickness of the paper stock itself !!!!!!! Some are thicker heavier stock/weight paper & are better for Photo's ( & usually more expensive ) & there are also thinner photo papers available and these are very good for DVD covers & pictures too I guess IHMO ! I've never had much if any problems with the paper ! On the epson Vs. Generic ink ! I say generic Epson Ink is just too damn expensive !!!!!!!!! I understand the Gotcha principle as it applies here ! Epson sells you the printer for a Cheap- Reasonable price ! Then they Soak you on the ink cartridges !Gotcha!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only caveat I've found is an occasional Slight color shift when doing DVD covers nothing extreme & Often I like my Printed Cover better than the originals ! I sometimes like a darker/brighter/lighter cover than original ... ect !But I suppose that some of the cover color difference can be attributed to the inks & or paper stock I/we use versus the commercial product! I'm happy enough with mine though !!!anyway thats my .02cents worth Ciao!

That's good to hear. I assume you mean the dvd case inserts and not "labels" for the actual DVDs?
I go to cdcovers.cc for all cover needs. I print the actual cover on printable DVDs. The site is cool bc u can select different DVD cover artwork from around the world. Then I print a the actual DVD cover sleeve using artwork from the website. I print that on matte papaer and shrink the size by 50%. I use CD paper sleeves to store the DVD in and staple the DVD cover sleeve to the paper sleeve. Or you can get 100 DVD cases for 20$ but the sleeves are 7$ for 200.
