Hi,

I am new to the wii. I have a question about playing on the internet.

1. do I have to pay to play on the internet? like xbox live where I have to pay. I have cable modem internet.

2. How can I play against my friends online? What do I need to do? My friend lives in New York and I don't.

You will need an Internet connection. A router that is wirless or you will have to buy a WiFi adapter to hook to your computer to use your WiFi connection on the Wii.

A game that has WiFi capabilities. The only game out for Wifi that I know of is Mario Strikers but that is a PAL version. So in order for you to play it you will need a region free Modchip installed. Or wait till July when the NTSC(U) version of Mario strikers comes out.

Will the update brick my wii? my wii has firmware 2.2U

If you have the 2.2U firmware then you will be fine to play the Mario Strikers PAL version.

You will probably be prompt for the update but it will be fine to accept it since you already have the 2.2U firmware. The update will find the firmware you have already on your Wii unit and skip it once it finds the 2.2U firmware already installed.

The North American version doesn't come out till July.

Yes the WiiD is Region free. Just make sure you always keep your Wii up to date with the latest firmware (2.2U is most current) and you won't have to worry about bricking your Wii when playing other region game disc.
