Very slow burning speeds on Nero 6 ....

Hi there,
I have recently downloaded Nero 6.6.0.18 after another error see thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/514846
i dont think this is related to that and everything was fine for a couple of days but my write speeds are suddenly fluctating? Hope I am okay to start a new thread.
sometimes it can take upto 45 mins to burn (copy of a copy dvd or cd)
so they do copy but take ages, whereas as previously it would only take 5-10 mins max depends on size of copy task ?

The situation is, before it only seemed to affect it when i was using the copy dvd facility but it seems to have affected copy cd as well.
The buffer bar goes crazy as well and never settles.
The write speed is X4 on dvds
When i check the info tool the write speed is 'greyed out' also on occasions when i am ready to 'copy'!
I have read some previous posts and checked and made sure that 'DMA is available' as it ws showing PIO, but it does now say it is on for Primary, IDE and Master.
I also uninstalled and re-installed but still no difference ?
So to recap occasionally :
1] Burn fails after about 75%
2] Write speed is extremely slow, so much that i cant use the pc or surf or do other tasks like i could previously
3] Write speed varies between cd and dvd, it is intermittent, one minute its okat for 1 disc then it goes very slow again
Also when i checked the info tool, i noticed the aspi is corrupted, it said that in bold red writing , whats all that about ?
Please help, any advice appreciated

Here's a few suggestions:
DVD-Copy on the fly
Turn this off - the 1st log failure is cause the drive had a problem reading the source disc. Copy on the Fly does it in real time so any little glitch like a read error (that may be able to be read through in another few seconds or so) and bam Coaster.
Which aspi is showing corrupted? Nero uses it own in Nero 6.
ASPI are usually onlu used by older programs. But a corrupt one can interfere.
Or can you post a screen shot?

I do copy directly from the drives all the time.
What alternative is there, that is as quick and easy or should i say more reliable ?

I burn "On The Fly" all the time to with no problem as long as you use good media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim and burn at a slower rate (not above 8x) you're be fine it shouldn't be a problem

neros fine if you get it setup right you can use DVD Decrypter and its free if you want

read errors cause it to switch to PIO mode You want the drive in DMA mode thats what is causing the slow down in your're burning time to fix it read this guide you can fix it in device manager

Reading from a drive in pio can be part of the slowness - it's a much slower rate for data transfer.
