I've modded my Wii with a WiiKey and so far I've had no problems playing backups, original games and downloaded games. I've tried maybe 10 from WII to GC to SNES and all worked fine. My son wanted to play Super Monkey Ball (I have an original disc that worked fine in my Gamecube, first time in the Wii) this afternoon and it would get all the way past the title screen, then would come up with a "an error has occured" message and would tell me to power off the unit. I tried several more times with no luck. I then ripped the original and burnt it to a DVD-R thinking maybe the disc itself was the problem. Same error after title screen. I am stumped. I'm not too concerned about not being able to play one game, but am worried that it may be symtommatic of a larger problem. I did a search and found nothing pertaining to this. Any idea? I am thinking I may try to download an ISO from a bittorrent site to see if I have any luck. Thanks

If this is an original then the Wiikey would not be the problem since it is disabled when a Wii or Game Cube original disc is used.

If it is a backup copy of it then it could be a compatibility issue with Wiikey. Wiikey has some problems with streaming audio which i think Super Monkey Ball has.

But if it is an original then you should have no trouble playing it on your Wii.

Yeah, that's the odd thing. Both the original and the backup both come up with the same error at the same screen. Makes me think my Wii and Super Monkey Ball don't like each other. The original did work fine on my gamecube (except for the fact in made my daughter nauseus). Strange, I guess I've got to hope it's just a fluke. I think for giggles I will try adding it to a multi-GC disc tomorrow, but I doubt that will matter. When it gets past the title screen it sounds almost like the DVD drive is shutting, then the error.

Try going to your Wii settings.

Then go to Game Data
then choose the Game Cube Game Data management and delete the Super Monkey Ball game save.

Maybe it has become corrupt somehow. You could also try taking the Game Cube Memory card out. Could be locking up when trying to access it.

Thanks for the tips. I did try your advice, but still a no go. I checked the memory card, but there weren't any save games on the card, so there was nothing to delete. I also tried loading it without a card at all. It gave me a message about not being able to save a game, but when it tried to load, bang, same error message after title screen. It's not a huge deal, it's just frustrating.

More then likely the Memory card is bad. So you probably will need to get another.

Try stores like...
