Well, I bought a Wiikey Modchip so that I could play my backup Wii games. It's in the process of shipping to my house. I bought the new HP Lightscribe DVD burner. Its the new 1040i version. I can't find out hardly anything about it ANYWHERE on the net. I had that LG you needed to backup the games but I had problems with it and it stopped working. I did, however, manage to successfully back up my Wii games on my PC with it.
Anyway, I have a few questions and concerns. I need to know if the HP dvd burner will let me burn the backup games. I tried IMGBurn to burn the iso image, but when it burns, it just burnt a small ring around the center of the disk and not the whole disk. Is this normal? Will it work on my Wii? I thought 4 Gigabytes of an ISO would be the whole disk? It did say it was sucessful, but I don't know because I don't have the Wiikey installed yet to test.
Do you HAVE to use DVD-R disks to burn backup Wii games? Can I just use DVD+R? I'm using HP DVD+R lightscribe disks, regular HP DVD+R disks, TDK DVD-R disks(I don't want to use these because they are my roomates), and Memorex DVD+R disks. Will those work?
I also heard you have to change your booktype. When I go to change the settings of my Booktype, it has a list of Drive brands. HP isn't on there, and I don't know what to pick. It says some Brands are really another brand, but I have no idea what HP is. I know you have to change it to DVD-Rom or something. Any ideas what to do there?
In a nutshell, will my new HP burner burn backup Wii games and be able to work on my Wii? (any help on my other questions would be greatly appreciated too)

No that is not normal. Tt should have filled up the whole disc if it was a Wii game.

Both DVD-R and DVD+R DO work. I recommend using better media than TDK, HP, and Memorex. Try getting Verbatim DVDs.

Well you don't HAVE to. Just burn the image file with ImgBurn on GOOD media. Then when you get your Wiikey installed see if it works.

Thank you so much for replying and helping. I have some additional comments and questions, if you don't mind.
Well, I'm pretty low on money right now. I'd like to get better disks, but I can't at the moment. Will they work if I burn at lower speeds, by chance? I mean, if I don't use these disks, they are just going to sit there and be a waste of money. I figured HP disks would work with an HP drive best.
Also, the IMGBurn situation. Why is it telling me it was a successful burn if its not all on there? Are there any settings I should change? Ever heard of this happening before?
What do you mean by the DVD+R working and not HAVING to change the booktype? Is it just preferred, or what? I'm not totally illiterate when it comes to these kinds of thing, but I'd like all the input I could get.

Well It's just a good idea to use quality discs. If you use cheap brand media then the games will either give Disc Read Errors or just plain won't work. verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are the way to go. But if you have nothing else, then just use the Memorex. Burn at half the speed of the discs. Like if they are 8X then burn at 4X.
Heh, I remember when I first started out, I used Imation discs. THOSE discs didn't last very long! The games started giving me long load times and the such. Now I use Verbatim DVD+R 8X with VideoGard. They all work flawlessly like a newly bought game!
Also, the IMGBurn situation. Why is it telling me it was a successful burn if its not all on there? Are there any settings I should change? Ever heard of this happening before?
I never heard of that happening actually. Make sure to update the DVD drive's firmware. Does this happen with all of the discs that you've burned?

Well for me, I never changed the booktype- actually my DVD drive won't let me lol. But when I burn a game using my Verbatim DVD+R 8X and put the DVD back in, it says that it's a DVD-ROM!

I think I actually got it to burn right. I used the Lightscribe HP disks and when I put it into the drive now, in ImgBurn, status says complete and the size is full. There is a tiny ring, but I know it has the image burnt because I turned out all the lights and compared a blank disk to the normal one. I used a really bright flashlight(I'm talking 10 million candlelight or something), and theres a clear color distinction. Maybe the ring is where it starts to burn?
I'd like to update my firmware, but I'm pretty sure I have the newest. This is the newest DVD burner from HP and theres hardly anything on the net about it.
But yeah, hopefully it works when my Wiikey comes. Thanks a lot for the help.
