Hi
its late and i've been screwing with my machine for a couple of hours now. the problem, it won't read any DVD-R, even those that were recorded on it. it goes into a test loop, cuts off, restarts and eventually allows me to use all functions except those associated with the dvd. this has happened before but was solved by unplugging the machine. now nothing works.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

well most dvd players dont support DVD "-R", and the disc can cause freezing in some player, please burn to dvd"+R", they are much more widely supported, an xbox360 will play a -R and many other currently uptodate dvd player, or you can upgrade the firmware, there is now difference between -R and +R
