1) Is the only way that you can brick your Wii is by playing a PAL release on an NTSC Wii and not have the latest Firmware update from Nintendo on the NTSC Wii?
2) Are there any NTSC games out there that can brick NTSC Wii?
What other ways can a Wii be bricked? Please list them!
I did search, but I'm making another thread for clarification. Most threads I keep coming across all seem to have their Wiis bricked with different games and such, so I want to make sure.
1) There are stories of people partially bricking their wii after using a PAL update on a NTSC console. Apparently some group released Mario Strikers converted into NTSC but the game still contained the PAL update so who ever played that game was forced to upgrade with PAL settings.
By partially bricking your wii means you can not get into the settings or set up..
Just play it safe and play games from your region.
Quote:Any PAL/NTSC(U)/NTSC(J) can be bricked if you play an out of region game disc on your Wii and the Game Disc updates your Wii with the wrong firmware. (Keep your firmware up to date on the Wii)
Below is a guide to follow when playing a Game Disc that has a firmware update on it.
NTSC(U) Game + NTSC(U) Wii = No chance of a brick
PAL Game + PAL Wii = No chance of a brick
NTSC(J) Game + NTSC(J) Wii = No chance of a brick
NTSC(U) Game + PAL/NTSC(J) Wii = Brick is possible if Wii is not updated with latest firmware.
PAL Game + NTSC(U)/NTSC(J) Wii = Brick is possible if Wii is not updated with latest firmware.
NTSC(J) Game + PAL/NTSC(U) Wii = Brick is possible if Wii is not updated with latest firmware.
The safest way to play your Wii without a possible brick is to play Game Disc that are the same region as your Wii system.
If you do enable the Region Free option on your Modchip then make sure your Wii is updated with the latest firmware available from Nintendo (At this time 2.2 is the latest firmware)
This is listed in 3 of those linked threads. So why would you need to clarify anything after reading it?
The search is not easy to use.. I dont blame him for not searching.. But i did find it funny when his topic was right above another topic that said "Mario Strikers Bricked my wii".
I gave up on searching How to boot snes roms off SD gecko...and got my info from elsewhere =)
When it comes to the topic of this thread it would be easy to search since it has been asked and answered multiple times.
As to your question not many people have asked that question so it would be kind of hard to search for the answer if the question was never asked or answered on this forum.
Thanks for the links Jarrel. I actually DID use the search function but like you said, people have constantly asked this question so many times that every link I click on...instead of answering the questions with a few simple words, the user who asked the questions just get a huge lecture and still no proper answer. I went through tons of threads for 10 minutes and I still couldn't find my answer, just people bitching. While you did provide me with those 4 threads, how can I find that information through more than 40 threads through the search function?
While my thread was just below "Super Mario Strikers Bricked my wii", I did in fact check the thread. In read my original post I asked that I wanted more CLARIFICATION. That thread just gave me the general impression that Strikers might have an firmware update but it doesn't answer my question on the possibility of a NTSC game bricking a NTSC console.
Oh yeah, about NTSC issues, I asked because this post from the first link gave me doubts about NTSC on NTSC.
Quote:So far, what I've seen of the list (bear in mind, I'm no expert), is that it looks like you need to be wary of any NTSC game that carries an update. Super Paper Mario carries the firmware update to 2.2U, which is different than 2.2E. If you already have 2.2E, your supposedly alright.
That's why I needed more clarification
Anyways, mods can close this thread. I got the answers I needed. Thanks everyone for your help and I really appreciate it.
Well sometimes you have to look through threads for more then 10 minutes.
The threads that I have linked to where at the top of the search list. Only took me a couple of minutes to find them.
I had to search when I first started modding my Wii. Actually I have only been in the Wii Modscene for a few months myself.
I think I have a very good handle on what Modding the Wii intales and that is due to all the great information that I have searched and read on this forum.
So learn how to narrow your search and it should be easy to find what you are looking for.
