Should I get my Wii modded now or wait for new chips?

I was thinking these chips might not be able to go online, but I see that everything is working now for all regions. Is there any real reason for me to wait anymore or should I just go ahead and mod it?
All opinions are welcome. Thanks :)

I would just buy one now! I bought a WiiD, and haven't had any problems with it at all! Just the other day, I went to re-solder the points, and I accidentally fried the Chip (or I thought...), and it still works! I have Mario Strikers and have played online with no problems! IF you are looking at modding your Wii, I would just do it now! Why Wait? right...

I'd just do it now too. Think about it...what does a modchip do? Mainly people have them to play backup games and that's exactly what the ones currently available do. I have the Wiikey, that plays backups, ROMS, and I'm sure some other stuff too. The software's upgradeable (when they release it), so unless there's something I'm missing, modchips can't change that much...

The only advantages I see with getting a chip later is that perhaps the chip will be able to support more games out there.
Looking at this list:
http://wiki.gbatemp.net/index.php/Wii_Re...28USA.29_to_PAL
You'll see what I mean. Looks like at least half the games have problems (the ones marked in red dont work)
But besides that if you wanna start now grab chip, with the Wiikey like its been said, you can watch videos, listen to music, play roms, and play backups (or at least half of them out there =) )
That brings up another question, if youre backing up from an original disc, does that mean the game wont have problems whereas we see problems with iso's downloaded in the region compatibility list?

just wondering - did u actually read what u typed? what difference will it be whether it be an iso or a backup from an original?
where do u think the downloaded iso came from? ---- same place- an original

Ya, but people have reported having problems with .iso's that they got off of Torrents, and Newsgroups, but haven't had any problems when they back them up themselves using RawDump2.0!

The reason I ask is because on the region compatibility list it mentions the people that hacked the game and made the iso so I thought maybe within the coding there was a difference that could affect it.
Anyway, good luck with your decision on whether to chip or not

Well I remember in the wiiconfig readme it mentioned you could put media in the media folder, I've only tried videos but im guessing if you put an mp3 in there (unless the wii cant play mp3s) it should work too.
There was a rom folder, a media folder, and a folder for gamecube applications or something of the sort.

I don't know if you've heard of this... But it's called Wiisic, and you put it on your Computer, and you just go onto the Internet Channel on the Wii, and you can stream music from your PC to your Wii! If you want to try it out, here is the link:

they are most probably referring to probably the game isos of other region. as long as the ORIGINAL GAME REGION of the game is the same with your console then theres no problem

Personally I enjoy my modified wii. I'm an importer and needed a way to play games from NTSC-J (Bleach Wii and One Piece Unlimited Adventure) as well as PAL Mario Strikers Charged Football (gotta love eBay!)
Haven't tried the online play but Have played games from all three regions and it works great.
Glad I got my Wii before Nintendo cut out the IC legs out from under me :-P

Anyone try Orb?
It plays Audio/Video/Pics
I downloaded it and set it up on my computer. Booted up my Wii and tried it in my living room worked perfect. Took my Wii upstairs and worked perfect. I can watch streaming video from anywhere in the house. It played all my AVI files that I have saved on my computer.
I have been using my Xbox for this but now with the WiFi option I can take my Wii upstairs and play it in my bedroom. I love the fact I can take my Wii upstairs in my bedroom and stream video Via WiFi.
It also has a TV recording option in the program. So if you have a TV tuner added to your computer it will record scheduled TV shows for you to watch as well.
Orb is (Freeware) and you can find out more by going to the below link.
