I'm really not going anywhere with soldering my WiiD to my Wii :( I've tried but it's too difficult, I've only managed to successfully tin two pads and connect wires to them on the WiiD, but I can't do the rest. I also may have ripped the C pad accidently when de-soldering that area, just not sure if I have, but its all looking pretty bad.
Is there anyone local to me whom I could send my Wii and WiiD to that can do the soldering job for me? I live in the UK, Scotland, and I really want this done as soon as possible :(
Just for your information. The D pad is optional. It does not need to be soldered in order for the Modchip to work.
This D option only needs to be soldered if you want to manually disable the Modchip or reset the Modchip firmware to the default setting.
If you messed up the A/B/C pads on the WiiD you have alternate spots to wire install to. Take a look at the below image...
What WAT soldering iron are you using? You should be using only a 15WAT soldering iron.
Try getting a second person to help. Tape down the WiiD and have someone else hold the wire to the point you need to solder to. I did this and it freed my hands up to better handle the Soldering Iron and Solder.
Also make sure you using thin enough wire. I used 27 Gauge. So make sure the wire is not to thick (30 Gauge is recommended but I used 27 Gauge).
I use an 18W iron, was the closest I could get to 15. I also just got a 0.5mm ball-point pen shaped tip to make it easier to solder with (the other one is a flat-ended 2.3mm tip)
As for the gauge of the solder, I don't know how to find that out.. I'm trying to search the B&Q website (a UK DIY store) but their search function isn't working for some reason; all I get is a white page
Also, what's the best method of tinning the pads properly with the iron? As you can see I didn't do a good job, even though I had did a bit of research about this before doing it. Any advice?
I can sort the chip out for you in terms of getting the wires onto the chip. However looking at the image it seems that you have briged the legs together.
There is no guarantee that the chip will work as it has not been tested.
Yeah, I accidently dropped solder at that spot in my first attempt with the wrong size soldering tip :( I'm gonna get assistance from my eldest brother tomorrow whom has experience with soldering, I'll let him know to desolder that spot before soldering everything else together.
It is possible to desolder that without damaging the legs, right?
