I was reading another thread which had some members talking about streaming audio to the Wii. Plus I have seen a few other people ask about streaming video to your Wii.

Granted I use my Xbox for this which I had no real reason to look into it. I then thought if I could somehow stream video to my Wii Via WiFi I could bring the Wii upstairs and stream to it.

So I searched and found a nice little program called Orb which is freeware and is on version 2 at this time. I have seen it mentioned a few times in other threads.

Anyway I downloaded it and set everything up. It worked flawlessly when I streamed the video to my living room where my Xbox is. I then wanted to test it upstairs and it worked flawlessly up there as well.

Great program and the video looked as good as when i play it on the Xbox.

So for those who are looking for a program to stream your video from your PC to your Wii check out Orb.

http://www.orb.com/

For anyone else that uses Orb. Is there any way to get the Opera navigation bar at the bottom to disappear giving me a full screen of the video? That is the only fault I can see with this program. i can live with it but it would be nice if there would be a way to take it off the screen.

Yes it lets you stream Audio/Video from your PC through the Opera Browser of the Wii.

At first I thought the PC would upload the Music/Video file to an Orb network then the Wii Opera browser would downloaded the Music/Video from the Orb network. Which would be slow has molasses.

But it actually goes straight from the PC to your Wii Via the LAN settings.

I would assume Orb is setting your PC up as a virtual server making the Wii think you are actually download the video from Online but actually streaming it from your PC to your Wii.

So to answer your question you do not upload the video to a server online. You are streaming it directly from your PC to your Wii.

I see that for Orb to work you must open up port 80 access on the firewall? Yikes! This raises a red flag for me. Does orb install a server listening on port 80 that must be open to the Internet? Or can I allow access only from the Wii on the local LAN and block all other inbound clients at the firewall? Otherwise, any vulnerability in their code leaves me wide open, which is a serious deal-breaker.

I just installed the program.

You need to register with a User Login Name and Password

Make sure Orb is running in your task bar on the computer (Bottom right corner)

Now go to your Wii and start your Wii and go to the Internet channel.

Type in http://mycast.orb.com Login using your User name and Password.

Yes you can also set up fiirewall settings as well for port 80.
Now you can choose your Audio/Video files that you want streamed to your Wii using the Orb Software on the Opera Internet browser.

it was that simple for me. The Orb website has a support forum as well. You can get to that from the Orb website.

I have no idea how many codecs it has and will play.

All I know is I have 10 to 12 AVI(XviD) files on my computer and Orbs played them all.

Streaming video works fine for me.

You probably have the port blocked that streams the Video which is Port 80. You need to set some rules up to allow Orb to connect through that port on both your firewall and router.

The below link shows you how to do this on your router. The site has a huge data base of different routers and a step by step guide for your particular router if it is in their data base...

So I tried Orb last night. It's great for music but none of my videos (in the default folder) were found. Then, after adding them manually by browsing, Orb could only play about 30% of my collection. Also, I'm leery of the central web database; why is this required? I've been using Tversity which isn't as easy to manage but recognizes more of my media and has no third-parties involved.
