I've been trying to put subtitles on a dvd converted from divx, but I'm having problems with the subtitle timings. I've tried both dvdsuptools' dvdsup encode and srt2sup.

The film is 1:29:31 long (with the subtitles supposed to end at 1:25:05). The subtitles are fine both when I play them back with the divx and when I do the math: 153000 frames /29.97 fps = 5105 secs -> 1:25:05 h. Yet when I play the dvd (multiplexed by ifoedit from the mp2, the mpv and the sup), the subtitle ends at 1:08:03, which would mean an impossible fps of 37.47.

It is exactly the same with dvdsupencode and with srt2sup.

Does anyone have any clue what might I be doing wrong? I even tried to read back into srt2sup the sup generated by dvdsupencode. According to srt2sup the timings are correct (with the last subtitle @ 1:25:05).

Both the film and the settings are NTSC (29.97 fps). I checked all the settings both in dvdsupencode and ifoedit and can't find what's wrong.

As I don't have scenarist or dvdmaestro I can't try them to get a "second opinion".

The only thing left now is to convert the subtitles to the observed timing but I would want to first understand what I'm doing wrong.
