I installed a genuine wiikey in a brand new Wii. After getting the unit apart I realized I neglected to remove a real game disc from the system. At the time I did not think that this would pose any issues. After the install and I plugged in the unit the red standby light came on. When I push power the unit blinks blue fast the standby light turns green then power shuts off. I cannot do anything at this point except unplug and retry the process. Eject button will cause the same thing to happen. After the issue the wiikey was removed and I am experiencing the same problem (No boot0. An experienced moder who happens to be excellent at soldering installed this unit. Can the disc in my system be the root of all my problems? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Simply, no.

Two days ago I just installed my Wiikey. Of course if you check my post "Did I install my chip?" things didn't work out splendidly (just yet =P).

Anyways I modded it with Wiispots in the DVD thinking the same as you that it wasn't going to matter much. After I attempted modding my wii it turned on just fine with the disc still in.

Personally I think you may of pieced it back together incorrectly. Atleast incorrectly to the point that it's realizing that it's hardware is either missing or is a failure.

As I see it you still have some hope. As stated I'd open up your wii & make sure everything (which should just be the ribbon, faceplate plug, and plug caddy-corner to the ribbon) is secure.

Make sure you have the below cables securely connected as Demaster has suggested.

Also check the drive board and make sure there is no solder splash that might have bridged any connections together.

Make sure the Modchip has been placed in an open area if you have used a wire install. I have come across a few threads with this similar issue and it was do to the Wii drive being compressed after reassembly of the Wii. Making it not possible to insert a Game Disc or ejecting a Game disc.

If this was a Wire install place the Wiikey into the space that is shown below on the image...

I am still working on the unit. I have checked and rechecked for unplugged cables or bridged solder joints. I am still not sure where we went wrong. I have to say that my mod-partner and myself are skilled with electronics and took extra care with this unit. We cannot find the problem to date. I think we may start looking deeper into the opt-drive to make sure nothing got unplugged by mistake. It seems that others who have messed their install up horrible can still boot the system. We are receiving power to the unit but upon pressing the power button wii cycles then cuts power. Looks like to me we created a $250 paper-weight.

I'm having a very similar issue with my wii, I'm an experienced solderer myself and have a decent number of mods under my belt.

Have you had any luck repairing your wii?

This exact same thing happened to me, but it quit happening when I removed the wiikey. I fooked it up with a drip of solder on the legs(wiikey) so I got another one, tried again, and it worked the second time (wired instead of trying the direct with small wires this time)

That leads me to believe it's something that happened while soldering... Whether it was a short or something similar, mine went away when I removed the wiikey. I think I had wires touching, that was by far the tightest solder job I have done to date (last time I did this was on the PS1) Look closely at your contacts and make sure nothing is spilling over...

I looked over all of the connectors and solder points, but had no luck spotting any issues :/

Best Buy had a shipment this weekend, so now it's time to do what any self-respecting geek would do... foolishly reattempt the mod!!

Try again (if you know you are good enough to!)

I did hundreds of playstation mods, all with wires. When I first attempted the wiikey, I heard how easy it was without wires... So I tried it. It didn't fare so well. Looked good, but didn't work. I thought I burned off a pad from the wiikey, so I tried it to the leg. Not so easy. I got a new WiiKey, tried with wires, and it worked perfectly.
