I tried to install Nero-7.9.6.0 running XP (selecting not to install the Search Bar) and received an error that the feature I'm trying to use is not available.
If I search my Local Settings, Temp I can find the Ner9E9.tmp folder that it just created. If I specify that, it comes back with another error that the Nero.msi is not a valid installation package.
I extracted just the Nero.msi and placed it into Temp.
Then ran the Install for 7.9.6.0. When it barfed, I pointed it at the Nero.msi in Temp, and it worked like a charm!

Hello - I am having the same issues with XP. How do you extract JUST the MSI. I have downloaded the 7.0 many times from Nero and it fail everytime.
Open up Nero-7.8.5.0_eng_update.exe with WinRAR and just select Nero.msi to extract.
Worst case, start running Nero-7.8.5.0_eng_update.exe,look in C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR-LOGIN\Local Settings\Temp, copy out Nero.msi, then kill the process.
