As long as you have Maxells that were made in Japan (MIJ), you should be ok. Get the ones made in Taiwan (MIT), and you'll have problems, at some point.
What are you trying to do? If you're trying to copy a newer movie, DVD Decrypter probably won't do it by itself. Decrypter isn't updated anymore, to get by the newer copy protections. You'll need DVDFab DecrypterHD, or AnyDVD, to get by protections now days.
Changing the MID code of a medium is not going to fix files, software, or computer settings if they are not correct in the first place. Maxell has now contracted all of its optical media manufacturing except for blue laser and holographic to Ritek in Taiwan.
I bought a 50 pack of Maxell DVD-R 16x a couple weeks ago. they coded as Prodisc. They burn very well too! I occasinally use DVD-R. Most always I use DVD+R 16x verbs or Sony's. They are the best out there in stores at this time. I still have a LOT of Taiyo Yuden Made Sony DVD+R 8x MIJs though! They Rule!
