help needed, Realtek 8201CL lan not recognized

Help, I'm trying to get a LinuxMCE Box running but cant get the LAN card to work. I tried this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=68168 and a couple of other things I've seen suggested hear in the forums but nothing seams to work.
I'm using Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft), LinuxMCE seams to only work with tis version of Ubuntu.
LAN card is a Realtek 82001CL PHY integrated in to a Biostar NF61S Mother board with a GeForce 6100 - 405 Chipset. The sound doesn't work ether, also a Realtec chip ALC861VD. Needles to say I am a complete newbie and I now most people around hear don't like Ubuntu but that doesn't mean that you cant help.
Any help greatly appreciated.
