"I have a source that works for Sony as a new game and product tester. My source has told me that Sony is working on an Update for the PSP that will make your PSP upgrade to 4.0 firmware. According to my source the only way you will be able to play any games is to have an upgraded 4.0 firmware. The new update is going to have a custom firewall and a tracking chip so it can track whether someone is downgrading their PSP. The idea that Sony will know what you are doing may be enough to deter people from trying to downgrade their firmware. Sony has put a team together to Watch for hackers and watch for people downgrading their PSP?s.
My source has stated that he himself has put in a transfer so he can assist with watching and catching these hackers. Sony also has hackers working for them, they have two well known hackers working for them now and although my source did give me their names I will not share the names of these guys; for obvious reasons. Sony has some smart guys working for them. Sony is working hard to get this upgrade completed and ensure that this one is bullet proof. I believe that SOCOM will be fun once again once all of this happens. My friend said it won?t be impossible to continue hacking or to even downgrade your PSP but with this in place there will be measures made towards catching them and getting rid of them. Although my source had this to say; "let?s just say it might take as long as Fire Team Bravo did or even longer with this new update Sony is going to be watching and Sony is going to make sure hackers do not continue to ruin the game of SOCOM.
Sony has not made an formal announcement about this news just yet but they will soon; there is currently no ETA for this.
Sony can go to hell. Once someone buys a PSP, it is theirs. They can do whatever the hell they want to it, heck if they want they could never upgrade if they wanted. Firmware updates from the PSP are locking the full potential of the PSP. I agree that using custom firmware to play backed up games is illegal and wrong but using it to run your own code or to run emulators of games that you have should be allowed. Imagine how much more fun a PSP would be if you could play super mario off a memory stick instead of waiting for that ******* UMD to load.

how exactly is a firmware update going to install a tracking chip? DEE DEE DEE
Sounds more a fake to me, now if I were Sony i will hire as first thing Dark Alex to not do the FW OE version of 4.0, the firewall can be custom set, the chip, can be a tracking software and there are posibilities, the only thing I think is that this will only work for people that do NOT know about Customer FW first, second this will only take effect if you connect your PSP to the network, otherwise, if you do not play online, there is no way a tracking software will be able to pin point your location if there is no way to send out the signal...
If Dark Alex goes to the Sony Dark Side we might be scupped, who will do the Custom FW, I guess we will need to wait for a microsoft portable version of the XBoX to play around and hack around :) Still Sony Should not violate the liberty of doing with your stuff whatever you do, is like those guys from smashmy... do, they are entitled to do whatever they want with their money and system, I will rather keep my systems, but everyone has the right to do whatever he wishes, sooooooooooo they can NOT stop us from doing whatever we want with our PSPs, what they can do is add a code to the UMDs, that if you back them up, you need to enter this special COde or put the UMD inside for it to take the Code and make it work with the backup without the disk inside... well the future is comming, we dont know what Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo are planning.
