Archos AV 500 clean install???

I just wanted to see if anyone could tell me how to do a clean install on my av500. I'm getting a fatal error and can't get it to do anything. When I connect the usb to it, it just says that it's trying to install the device (on the computer) on the av500 it says that the usb is connected. Nothing ever gets installed and I can't get to any menu's. Someone PLEASE help me out!! I was just going to put new firmware on it but can't get it to load on my computer...
