It doesn't matter as long as you download it via the Wifi connection... you can do it via the game updates--just MAKE SURE you have the correct region game for your console or like feod said, you'll brick your Wii!

The updates work the same for both modded and non-modded consoles (at least up to 2.2 firmware). Let's just hope the big N doesn't release a firmware that bricks modded Wiis using the same region game and console.

So is it safe to say that as long as you are using same region as console and have the updates; that at this moment we should have no issues with bricking.

If you do not want to take a chance of bricking your Wii only play Region Game Disc that is the same Region as your Wii.

If you play out of Region Game Disc on your console then make sure the Wii is updated to the latest firmware (As of now 2.2 is latest) and you will have no brick problem.

How much more simple can it be made?

100% safe way is to play same Region Disc as your Wii Region.

100% safe playing out of region game disc as long as you make sure the Wii is updated to latest firmware before playing the out of region game disc.

The problem that is occurring is Wii owners that do not keep their Wii updated are bricking their Wii's due to installing the wrong region firmware on the Wii. This can be avoided by keeping your Wii updated to the latest released firmware.

@renickdp

Updating the Wii will not be effected at all Via WiFi or by Game Disc. Just make sure you use the correct region game disc if you use a game disc to update the Wii. So it is safe to install the Modchip as is. You can always update to the newest Wii firmware later with no problem.

Look it's obvious that you know a lot about this scene but theres no need to make the rest of us who don't; feel like a$$holes. I'm new to this particular mod scene but not to modding. If you are too annoyed to answer questions from those you believe to be newbs then don't bother. There are plenty on this forum that are willing with out the sarcasm.

What sarcasm? (Who is being sarcastic?)

But since you said your a newbie and new to the Wii Modscene I will add a little more on what I think...

If the author of this thread and you would have searched (As stated in forum rules to do) you would have found your answer to these questions.

This has been asked and answered in multiple threads. We are a helping community here at AfterDawn but you need to help yourself as well. It doesn't mater if your a newbie or not.

The forum and it's past threads are here to help you out. What good is it answering those past threads if new members come to the site and don't search for those past threads?

Both (Can I update after installing a modchip) and (The Region Brick Issue) has been asked time and time again.

A do think I have a basic knowledge in the Wii Modscene. Maybe not the best but I have a basic knowledge of it. Which I have learned from past threads that where created.

If you did a search of threads that where started by me you would find very few if not none at all. This is due to the over whelming knowledge that others have offered in the past and need to be taken advantage of.

So yes I do get irritated and frustrated when the same question is asked time and time again. Which could have been found by doing a search. I am sure I am not the only 1 that feels this way. But at least I answered your questions even if you think I was being sarcastic (talk about ungrateful).

By the way here is the search link...

@larry

People don't quite get my question clearly, what I am asking is...
I currently DON'T have the 2.2 version and my questions is if I should install modchip then upgrade OR upgrade to 2.2 THEN install the modchip...?

Like I said its obvious you know a lot about the WII modding scene and yes i did say i'm new to THIS scene. I know all about searching and checking prior to me posting. I have been a moderator on several forums . Some of the answers to some of the questions to some the threads you mentioned were unclear. Your sarcasm at least for me came from this comment "How much more simple can it be made?" Now maybe I just had a bad day and took your help in the wrong way if so well then I'm sorry and thanks for the much more clear explanation.

What they are saying is it doesn't matter. You can update prior to install or after makes no difference. What matters is what games you plan to play on your modded WII.

It doesn't matter how you do it. Either way you can update the Wii with no problems.
