i used to do this all the time. Ill quick a guide right now.

Pepsimaxx's guide to burn \ copy a PSX game in 3 steps.

Required Stuff:
CDRWin
CD Writer
Computer

1-)
IF YOU HAVE THE CD ITSELF, CHOOSE THIS STEP, IF NOT SKIP TO STEP 2

Insert the PSX CD into your CD-Rom drive, Windows should pick it up, just ignore. Open CDRWin and choose Copy to Harddrive. Let that go, it should give you a .bin and .cue file.

2-) Choose the Write to CD option. Ensure proper writer is selected. Click Load Cuesheet. Locate your .cue file that you made in Step 1 or got from a "friend".

3-) Click record disc, let it write. Popp'er out of your drive and slam that badboy in the PSX.

it ALSO sounds like an incompatability between some of the games and the mod chip thats installed in the psx.

although the only way to tell for sure is to open it up and look, if originals always work, and SOME backups DONT work, then its iether the backups that are at fault, or the mod-chip in the psx.
