I have attached everything

But when i took out the ribbon cable at frst i broke the bit on the dvd drive that holds the right side in place.
But i stuck it down with electrical tape and the ribbon is held down firmly so i doubt its anything to do with that

1) What part does the ribbon cable control?
2) What part does the white socket cable control?
3) What part does the red and black wire at the front of the wii control?

Thanks please answer my questions asap, im panicking and worrying soo much :(
thanks!

I had a similar problem it was after i installed my chip. It would only suck in the cd while the cd was in standby mode. If I turned on the wii and tried to insert the cd it wouldn't. I'm not the greatest at soldering but I'd re-check your solder points and ensure you didn't accidentally bridge any of them to another; that seem to be the problem with mine.

I broke my ribbon cable but it's okay cause I taped it down

Is this a joke? Dude, you can't break a ribbon cable and expect it to hold and make a solid connection with tape. You need a new ribbon cable.

i will give these people a caveat in that the ribbon is a bit fragile. I opened my Wii up only to find that mine had a slight tear in it from the factory!!! Works fine, but obviously even the factory has a few issues of it crushing or tearing (yes, i am the original owner of the Wii).

but the ribbon has several traces in it and needs to be held firmly in place all the time. Otherwise, you best be checking ebay for a parts-only wii.

Wow way to go breaking the ribbon cable. My first reply would have been to contact Nintendo but when I found u had installed a wiikey I realized u voided the warranty and screwed urself. Oh well, no use crying over spilled milk. I'm not sure exactly where to get a new cable, you could surf for a broken wii to buy for parts or you could try radio shack they can sometimes have the components you need for system repairs. I hope u can fix it cause it would be a shame to have a worthless wii.

I have this same problem, I tired a backup, didn't work and then wouldn't eject, so I removed it by hand, and somehow some parts inside the drive broke free, I managed to get them back into their original places, but the dvd drive wont load or read. It's like has no power, the Wii dosent make them DVD noises when you first turn it on.

@ziggi_83

You have asked this question already in a few threads. I can't find the thread that I replied to you about this same problem. Plus you have asked the same in the below thread...

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/519083

Multi-posting the same question gets confusing plus most of these answer where already given to you in your previous threads.

Thanks for your concern, i can only remember that one you stated that i asked about the brown connector, but the brown connector and the ejection of wii discs seems different to me, because i feel i have fixed the brown connector but i dont know where the power failure is occuring

Your original post was about an ejection problem as well. I asked if you had any solder splash that had bridged some soldering points on the mobo. You stated you looked and there was none. You then went on telling me that you broke of the Ribbon Cable connector but had taped it down.

I told you that taping down the Ribbon cable more then likely will not fix the ribbon issue. I said you will need to get a replacement drive or replace the brown connector that clamps the Ribbon cable down if possible.

Pretty much the same advice that Kafluke has given you.

If all the cable connectors are connected properly but the Ribbon cable is taped down what makes you think that is not the issue?

That brown connector clamps down on the Ribbon cable putting allot more pressure on the Ribbon connection then what taping it down would do.

Asking the question over and over again saying you don't think it is a Ribbon Cable issue isn't going to change the fact that it more then likely is the problem.

So by a replacement Drive or see if somehow you can replace the brown clamp that the Ribbon Cable connects to.

I dont think it will be that ribbon, if you're having the same problem as I have, then it will be more to do with the power. For instance when you turn a working Wii on, the drive makes a few routine noises, but now if it is like mine it dosen't, meaning some part of the drive is not gaining power, so could it be that other connector?

Lets find solutions and share em with us.

Are you kidding me? Since when does he have the same problem as you?

When the heck did parts fall out of his drive of the Wii?

I think your situation and ziggi_83 situation are 2 different things.

His is a Ribbon issue and yours is well your DVD Drive is just plain falling apart.

How do you expect some of the routine noises to happen if the Ribbon Cable is not properly hooked up?

I have seen some members have issues like this by not having the Ribbon Cable aligned properly. You need to seat that Ribbon Cable into the brown connector perfectly for it to work properly.

So just think how it will work by taping the damn thing down. I would expect to see this type of fix on The Red Green Show. (For those that don't know what the Red Green show is well that comment will go over your head)

The Ribbon Cable Clamp is the only physical problem that can be found as an issue. So fix what is broke then if you still have the problem then trouble shoot other things. Taping it in my opinion will not fix the issue.

And to say his issue is the same as yours is just plain ludicrous.

If you think of the Wii's DVD drive like the one you have on your PC, that 'Ribbon' is where the data is transferred from the drive to the Motherboard, its the IDE cable if you will. If it is pulled out the drive should still eject and inject disks because it is still recieving power through the PSU cable (that little white cable which tucks into that groove), just like the one in your PC. Give it a try for yourself if you dont beleive me, pull the IDE cable out and I bet the drive still ejects and injects disks they just cannot be read due to the IDE cable not been there.

Mr Attitude Disfunction:

His 'Ribbon' is fine.

He has damage components installing the chip or the power cable.

The drive would still load and unload disks if that 'Ribbon' wasn't plugged in.

Also if you bothered to read my previous post;

"I tried a backup, didn't work and then wouldn't eject"

His problem and my problem can be considered to be alike under the laws of physics.

I didn't say say his drive was falling apart, i said:

"so I removed it by hand, and somehow some parts inside the drive broke free"

This was the step I took to remove the disk, as it would NOT eject.

The fact is the disk would not eject afterwards.

Quote from 'ziggi_83':

"Update: i tried inserting the disc again, it went inside but now its not ejecting!"

Hmm, what did I just say previously, dont you think that sounds pretty much the same as what happened to me larrylje?

If you're going to be positive towards us then don't bother replying, especially in such a rude and cockey manner.

Evedently it isnt if it isn't working and the Ribion Clamp has been broken off.

I never said you said his drive was faling apart. I said your drive was falling apart and he has a Ribion Cable issue.

You can say all you want that his Ribion Cable is fine but it is a Fact that the Ribion Cable Clamp is broken off. So how can you say it is fine if his Drive is not operational?

I have seen other threads which members have had this issue before and it was due to the Ribbon Cable not being connected properly. Once they had connected it properly it had fixed the problem.

I still say ziggi_83 will need to get that Ribbon Cable clamp fixed.

thanks alot larrylje and nethawk- but lets not argue we all a afterdawn family :)
Larry do you know where i can buy a wii dvd drive from? i looked but nothing showed up, i got a PAL wii. I think my dvd drive is bust i dont think i can fix it, the connector on the wii dvd drive has a bit missing as well. Someguy want it for £120-$240 for the spare parts lol.

Nethawk- how did you get the wii disc out of your drive, i need to do that, please reply asap. I think some fuse on the drive is blown like the link that larry gave us shows, if the ribbon cable is not for the power than that must be the problem.

Even though if i fluke the fix, it would probably break again because i will take out my wiikey for the wiip v2!

Yea...um... there may be one problem to this theory.

Not sure, but I thought I'd throw in my two cents...

Last time I checked, the "eject" button on the IDE drive was part of the drive itself. Meaning... the drive had no reason to send the "eject" command to the computer through the parallel cable. It just does it internally, requiring only power to do the job.

The Wii is probably different. I have not opened mine yet, but i would assume that the "eject" button goes through some part of the main board instead of the main drive. This is just my assumption. The command MAY be sent through that ribbon cable, but then again, may not.

This is just what I think. I hope this sparks some ideas for everyone to fix theirs.

Thanks
