DVD-R would have to be Taiyo Yuden & Verbatim. Same goes for DVD+R. For DVD+R DL it is Verbatim.

If you can find Panasonic or Pioneer DVD-R I hear those are good, but I haven't seen those in about 2 years and last time they were $10 for 5 discs.

hp? They are ok i really have had no experience with them, but I would definately stick with verbatim. I bought a 50 pack of verbaitims for 8 bucks at staple a while ago and I have yet to have any coasters. I love em.

Yeah, with HP, you are kind of playing Russian roulette. They might be OK or bad. There is no guessing with Verbatim and they will be better than the OK HP ones.

Stay away from the verbatim 16x(-)(code code MCC03RG20), those where giving me and other users problems. Unknown if it was just some bad batches that got sent out or some quality problem. Whatever brand you decide to buy, make sure you do at least one burn and do a quality test(easy to do with Nero) to see if it works well with your burner, anything above 90% is good. For me I only use the premium taiyo yuden 8(-) there inexpensive(when on sale) and works great on all my burners (nec/liteon/phillips/optorite), only drawback you can only buy through the internet. I always buy 200 qty when I run low, they play all my dvd backups flawlessly. Most people will agreed that taiyo yuden is the best, once you use them, you will know your using a high quality product. I buy verbatim and sony media, but usually for burning non-important information.

Besides the Verbs and Tys, the Office Depot brand DVD-Rs are supposed to be pretty goood. They are having a sale on those discs this week.

Gives an explanation on what to look for.
