I'd like to start out by saying that i'm new to these forums. I've done a search on google and the forums but I haven't found any information on this specific problem yet. Sorry if this has been answered before...

I have a u.s. wii with a wiikey modchip installed and it's been working fine so far to play backups. I recently tried enabling the chip's region-override feature via version 1.2 of the setup disc, saving the settings, and rebooting the wii. Once I do this, any time I load a disc- either NTSC-u or NTSC-j, the wii just tries to load the disc forever and nothing happens. It doesn't report the disc as unreadable or anything... it just shows that image of the spinning wii and gamecube disc indefinitely. If I turn region override back off, everything works fine again. Is there anyone who has seen this before or has an idea of something i've done wrong earlier in the process?

The discs are NTSC-j images burned the same way I've burned all my NTSC-u discs- using imgburn.exe and memorex dvd-r's which have all worked fine for me so far. I know there are some other options like patching via software which I might try as well if I can't get this solved (in that case I wouldn't need the region override feature because it effectively makes the disc NTSC-u, correct?) Hm, well the chip seems fine. Maybe use better media? What JPN games are you trying to play?

Thanks for the response. I think my media works fine. I've got several games, and i've never had a problem with any of them. So far I've tried the jpn version of big brain accademy, dog island (which i've heard has problems, but the compatibility list says works fine, One Piece, and a few others).

Another reason I dont' think it's the media or a bad burn though, is that when region override is turned on, none of my games work, even the ones that worked fine before. once region override is turned on, it seems to get stuck in some loop while trying to read any disc in the drive. It never times out or reports that it's unable to read the disk..it just spins indefinitely. When I turn region override off everything works as it should...

Then I think it IS the chip. Did you make sure that all of the points have been soldered correctly?

not yet, I was hoping I wouldn't have to open it back up for this. I figured that if the chip is working to play backups then it must be installed correctly... But I guess I don't know that for sure. I'll check up on that.

it looks like i've solved this for now in case anyone else has this problem in the future. I switched the dvd speed to to 3x and now everything works including region override. It might have been some strange fluke... hopefully i can turn 6x back on later and keep it working.
