I have Nero Express version 6.6.1.15 and want to "slipstream" my Windows XP and SP2 roms using the information in this article http://www.informationweek.com/story/sho...icleID=47212312

I don't encounter a problem until step 13, repeated here for convenience:

Step 13: Select File/New Project/Bootable Disc. When the dialog opens, set Bootable Disc Type: to No Emulation. Click the ">>Advanced" button, and set the Load Segment: to 0x000 and the Sector Count: to 4. Now click "Browse" where the dialog asks you to "locate the image file that contains the bootable image." Browse/navigate to C:\XPSP2\BOOT. Click on the "boot.ima" file you placed there in Step Eleven, and then click "Open" and "OK."

Nero doesn't present me with the option to "set Bootable Disc Type" or to "set the Load Segment: to 0x000 and the Sector Count: to 4".

And do I really have to mess around with a floppy for the boot "image"?

Any help would be appreciated.

The windows in my edition (It isn't SE) are different and I don't see any way of selecting expert settings.

Nero 6 versions 6.6.0.18 was the most stable. Downlaod link.

I have the Nero Startsmart OEM Suite 1. It contains Nero Express 6.

When I open it I select "Make Bootable CD".

However, do you recommend I ditch it and install 6.6.0.18 instead?

I do not care for Nero myself.
Your Serial number will not be any good, you will likely have to buy Nero.

Nero 6 nubmbers look like 1A43-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.
There are millions out there.

Hmmmm, I bought the one which I have.

Its serial number starts 1A20-

I shall try 6.6.0.18 with that number. If it doesn't work I don't know what to do.

What I am looking for is a user friendly program - I find this variant of Nero to be user hostile.

Ok, I uninstalled the version I had and installed 6.6.0.18.

It has accepted the serial number - which was still somewhere in the Nero folder on the C drive or in the registry or wherever it gets stored - and says it is registered to me, so it works.

However I see no difference whatsoever in the interface/windows which are presented to me so I'm no further ahead.

Any ideas please?

You could un-install and run the clean tool.
Then try again.

Sorry, I had bought a OEM Nero disc and my number would not work.
Nero is OK if you already paid for it.
I have it, but I would not get Nero 7

The screen which opens up when I click StartSmart is a garish thing which presents me with 6 icons.

Left to right they are: star, sheet of paper, musical quaver, photo/film, pair of cds, rectangle and a cross on a green background.

Only the first two seem relevant.

The first one, when the mouse hovers over it, says Favorites and gives a choice of
Make data cd
Make audio cd
Make video cd
Copy cd

The second one says Data and gives a choice of
Make data cd
Make audio and data cd
Make bootable cd

Clicking on Make bootable cd (or Make data cd) presents me with a window quite different to that in your link.

I can, if it will help, copy it from a screen capture.

Your serial number may not give you full install.
It only shows express not ROM.

I wouldn't know about that.
